Day Men Officially optioned for a movie by Universal

We had mentioned previously that Day Men from Boom Studios had been optioned for a movie here. Prices shot up fairly quick and became a $20 book almost over night. Now the announcement has been officially made.

  1. This is good news for me and the 5 first prints I have in my short box. Now I just have to figure out when the right time to unload them is.

    1. I have four left. As soon as it broke today the ones I had at 14.99 started to get lowball best offers. I declined them and bumped my prices up. I am getting 2 more copies Thursday.

      1. I’ve gotten more copies and 2nd prints, and SDCC variants coming in. I have no idea when the best time to unload these will be, I’m thinking it hasn’t even begun to peak yet and we still have some maturity with its 17,000 print run. Your thoughts?

        1. I will be getting the Baltimore Comic Con editions next month. I will run a pre-order when it is more official. I do not think this has peaked yet, and that is why I changed my pricing and kept some copies in reserve. Copies were flying out of ebay at 8.99 or so. They are gone. i was getting $10, then $12 offers and declined them as I knew the news had broken.

  2. That was smart. I seevral NM 9.8 candidates. I also have ghost variants and a few SDCC variants. I didn’t even know about the Baltimore variants. Thanks for the heads up. Anyway of ordering that at cover? (not planning to attending the con).

Also, I’d assume that the ghost variants an san diego variants are more rare, valuable than the standard issues. However, could I be wrong? I ask because I went all out my way to get the variants while I already had a log full of standard editions prior to the official announcement yesterday. Thanks.

    1. I am alos wondering if it is worth the time and money to pick up the variants and the second print…I ended up with about 15 copies of the 1st print standard cover.

    2. I don’t think they do them at cover. Baltimore usually charges about $10-15 per variant. So it would be that plus shipping plus a 10% up charge to cover pay pal fees. Let me know if you are interested.

      1. Yeah, I’m down for 2x NM Baltimore con variants. The more info you have, the better. I’ll hit you up on fb sometime. Thanks. Yes, I grabbed 6 2nd prints as well with variants. Variants are usually more valued than the regular covers, but I’m having an easier time finding variants now than the regular covers. No worries there I suppose, just seems odd at the moment. I keep thinking Peter Panzerfaust with its 2nd printings and #2 issue being valued so high. However, the print run for this is higher than PP, and it’s optioned as a movie, so the expectations for the peak of this book remains unknown. I’m going in tho and getting multiples and will slow down to doubles after the 3rd issue. Your thoughts?

        1. I will let you know as soon as I get the info from Baltimore Comic Con. They have not announced their exclusives. I am also doing the Zenescope variants this time around.

  3. I found a pre order for a signed incentive #1 at about $50.00. I’m not buying it since it’s not CGC. That’s a tough one as it comes signed SMH. It looks like a bunch of #1 variants for this book are about to hit the market….mm…#1 went back into variant publication…not sure how that is going to affect peaks. Maybe good…maybe bad. I reached my threshold, lol.

    1. Ghosted #1 is recommended as an early speculation book. Issue #1 was a strong read. I hear issue #2 kind of fell flat. However, this series may heat up in another 6 months or so, it’s a recommendation, but never a guarantee of course. With that said, the first print and 2nd print look similar so make sure you check the board codes to verify which print you want. Good luck.

      1. I think the series has been fantastic. I didn’t feel the second issue was bad at all. Since this is Kirkman’s imprint, I can honestly see him selling this as a show.

    2. It’s really all just a matter of preference.

#1 was good enough for me to pick up #2 and that one was good enough in order for me to pick up the next one. I really take comics one issue at a time.

For instance, I read Clone through issue 5 and just lost interest and stopped after that issue. It seemed too predicting and the artwork wasn’t the style I enjoyed (Seems Ryp goes a little overboard with too many lines, especially on character faces).

Nowhere Men I read the first 2 and sort of lost interest, then read an article and gave them another chance by picking up issue 3 (of course by then it was on it’s 3rd print), now I’ve been reading them since.

But I’d recommend Ghosted #1. If you don’t like it, well, you’re out 3 bucks or so unless you can sell it at retail price.

      1. I liked Nowhere Men but do not know why there has been such a big gap in issues. It has killed the secondary market value on it.

I like Clone, but Ryp’s art (reminds me of Geoff Darrow) really suits avatar books and Nancy in Hell better than clone. Still buy it though.

Day Men I have not read. I own 10 copies but haven’t cracked one yet.

      2. Yeah, the big gaps for Nowhere Men is driving me crazy too. Image Comics release schedule drives me nuts, nothing is accurate there except what is planned for the next week in advance. Someone really needs to keep that site updated and at least put TBD for most of the dates if they are unsure yet.

Day Men I just picked up a 2nd print to give it a try. I almost picked up when it first hit the shelves but I’m trying to keep my current read list at a sane level so I opted to skip it originally, one store had just 2 copies of the 2nd print, so I’m betting it will even start demanding a premium if the movie is still a go in a few weeks or months.

  4. So….Does anyone else feel another vampire adaptation would be a horrible idea? Look at the teeny bopper track record, true blood and twilight. I mean really there is even a new tv series this Fall based on Dracula. I hope that Day Men does do well, although I do have little faith in the idea of another movie.

There are a whole bunch of comic books I feel would make for an awesome movie or tv show. Uber would be amazing. Any other ideas out there?

    1. I think Über has been looked at for a movie. Do not think Nazis and tv have worked since Hogan’s Heroes. I am excited for The Strain. It is a vampire story and is a fantastic read.

      1. I’m enjoying Uber as a monthly read and left room in case the series gets some heat. If not, no worries, the series is getting better and better so far and makes for a good read. I read Day Men #1…thought it was cool, but it’s too early to tell how the comic will peak. I have about a dozen too.
