Star Wars writer to pen Starlight Movie

From The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars Stand-Alone Writer Gary Whitta to Pen ‘Starlight’ for Fox
Mark Millar has been on a tear releasing comics that are being turned into movies. Some of the movies have been fast tracked. Starlight, his sci-fi pulp hero comic, which was picked up for a movie, now has star pen power behind it.

Gary Whitta has already nabbed one of the hottest writing gigs out there, penning one of the Star Wars stand-alone films, and now he’s signed on to work on another hot space hero project.
Simon Kinberg, who worked on X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, will produce, reuniting him with Millar as he’s also producing an adaptation of Millar’s Kindergarten Heroes. Steve Asbell is overseeing for Fox.
Whitta is writing the script for the first Star Wars spin-off film, which Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards will direct. The Lucasfilm and Disney project has a release date set for Dec. 16, 2016, but is highly secretive, so there’s still no official word on what character the story will center on.

Starlight #1 is an easy pickup for less than cover price.

  1. The forbidden planet variant has a print run of 1000 and can be found for under $20. Let’s clear eBay of them and profit.

    1. I wouldn’t bet on it entirely. Secret Service is turning into a movie and you can find all the issues relatively easy still at your local shops.

  2. Now that there’s more news about it becoming a movie, we’ll probably see new issues cease to be released. I was really enjoying Starlight too, bummer!

    1. I agree. Starlight is a great series. The only reason I think the forbidden variant is a great spec is because there’s only 2 on eBay. When the trailer is released or more word comes people will want the rare versions. And people love sketch variants with low print runs. Then again, Mark Millar does movie deals for everything now a days.

      1. That’s his goal, I think he’s publicly said it too. His aim is to make his comics movies and quickly. They also seem to get left behind too once that deal is in place. We’ve had 4 issues of Jupiter’s Legacy and it’s been out for almost a year and a half? Starlight honestly is his only good comic currently. MPH just started to get silly. Jupiter’s Legacy is good but I can’t be bothered with a new issue every 4-6 months.
