Hi all – I’m extremely green when it comes to comic speculation and really have only gotten back into the collectiv world recently. Is it better to get a #1 of a title or the variant of the #1? Does the ‘regular’ cover end up holding the value longer and the variant is more short term? And do you guys have a general site of reference where you can see what print runs of comics are? Sorry for my ignorance, but I figure you guys would know best and be able to offer some advice.
Hey CL most if us use comichron.com for print run size. Most of the time variants sell for higher initially and lose value. This happens with regular covers as well. So it is a crap shoot. People do well with variants though. Buy which cover you like the best. If you are lucky and have a store that sells variants at cover price, grab them. Quick flips most of the time.
I usually stick with the regular covers.
I’ll only buy the variants if:
a) it’s a series I really enjoy and want to attempt to collect every issue/variant to be a completest
b) just love the art work for the variant cover
c) quick flip (like anthony said).
But yeah, if your collecting, buy what you like. If you plan to sell, buy variants if you can get them at cover to make bigger profits.
