Sex Criminals coming to TV

Thanks to Daniel for the heads up.

Deadline has reported that Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick signed a deal with Universal TV to turn some of their creator owned books into TV shows

Comic book power couple Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick are venturing into television with a two-year overall deal at Universal TV. Under the pact, the married duo will adapt some of their comic books as well as original TV series & concepts. They also plan to use their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds production company as a TV launchpad for other comic creators’ IP.

Looks like Sex Criminals will be the first property adapted:

One of the first projects the company is developing under the Uni TV deal is an adaptation of the Eisner Award- and Harvey Award-winning comic Sex Criminals, created by Fraction with partner Chip Zdarsky. Image Comics’ Sex Criminals, named the best comic of the year in 2013 by Time magazine, centers on a female librarian and male actor who discover they can freeze time when they orgasm.

Time to seek out the cheapest copies of Sex Criminals #1

  1. This will have to be on HBO or similar channel to be successful.
The 4th printing photo variant of issue 1 is prolly the one to go after. (FYI, there is a 5th printing that is really the second print of the 4th printing. Avoid that one and be sure it’s the 4th printing if you are getting the photo variant.)

  2. I just picked these up digitally from Comixology’s $1 sale they were having. I wish I would have jumped on board from the beginning with paper copies but i’m curious to see how they turn a comic this graphic into a TV show.

  3. I found a couple at my LCS for $12 each? Do u recomend getting them and flipping them or hold on to till the show comes out? Any suggestions?

    1. Make profit now if you can. Sell one to cover the cost of both, hold the other for small zero lost gamble since the first sale paid for the investment. Remember, just because a show gets optioned doesn’t mean you’ll ever see it on your TV or movie screen.

      1. Great point. Everyone remember the sixth gun! I sold my #1 for $300 when the news broke of a tv show and then the pilot never aired. You can get #1 for under $30 now

        1. Yup. If you got more than one of something and you got for cover or for cheap, make your money back now or for smaller profit, then hold the remaining ones that are theoretically paid for now for a small gamble in hopes the show does make it to your screen.

    1. Haha, Anthony – yeah once the sixth gun died down I bought one for $20. So bought my original at cover and sold for $300 and then bought again for $30. Love being able to do that

      1. I found 6 copies in dollar bins in two stores. The weakest copy I sold for $100. Made a lot of money off it and think I want to read the full run. Still have some signed copies of
        Various issues around.

      2. This one is on my radar to read one day as well. I’ll probably find the TPB at Half Price though instead of hunting down individual issues.
