Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie has working title "Guardians 3000"

Currently Guardians 3000 is the working title for the 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. Odd working title to give a movie when you are publishing a book by the same name.
Guardians 3000 is the name of a Marvel comic book featuring a team of original Guardians of the Galaxy. Rumor has it some additional Guardians will make it into the movie. Could it be member of the original team now staring in Guardians 3000.
From Cinemablend.com:

With that said it’s possible that the futuristic 3000 continuity won’t be acknowledged. However, the reference in the production title could indicate that more heavy hitters from that lineup, besides just Michael Rooker’s Yondu, may be set to join the team of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. In fact, the heaviest of all these hitters in Vance Astro, or “Major Victory” (wearing the black mask in the below pic), who might be someone destined to add to the cinematic team’s dynamic. Depicted in the future-set comic series as essentially an unfrozen contemporary U.S. Air Force pilot-turned-intergalactic hero of the future, Astro is often the default leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy team. Armed with psychokinetic powers, his storyline parallels to Captain America are rather apparent, even to the point that he eventually inherits Cap’s shield.

Lance Astro first appeared in the now famous Marvel Superheroes #18, which features the first appearance of the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

  1. This is a tough one. I don’t have marvel superheroes 18, but I do have a copy of guardians 3000 #1 1:100 Alex Ross sketch variant. Wonder if that will see an increase in price on name alone. Thoughts?

      1. Got it for $30 so I guess I should just be patient. I’ll keep an eye on eBay and see if those copies sell quickly.
Do you know the print run on variants like this?

  2. Gunn has said that he wanted only one Earthling in the sequal, but look for Star Hawk and Yondu to be featured in that sequal.

  3. I wonder if that is a nod regarding time travel. Kang is from the 30th century..they year 3000 or so. Wonder if they are playing on that and having some fun with 3000 also being a title of the book.
