The 51st edition of the open forum!

What are your pick ups?
What about back issue raids?

  1. My definite pickups are:

Justice League #44 (I’m actually enjoying this Darkseid War story line)
American Vampire #10 (I binged read the first arc, I might try to wait on these to binge read, it seems better when reading them all at once)
Godzilla in Hell #3 (Just good stuff man!)
Revival #33 (I’m still hanging in there, things are getting more interesting)
Sons of the Devil #5 (Still in there, each issue makes me want to find out what’s going on)
    Spread #10 (Duh!)
They’re Not Like Us #8 (Gotta see where this is heading with a new story arc)
Captain America White #2 (I’m a Cap fan now)
Hail Hydra #3 (I like Hydra, haven’t read them but plan to binge read when they’re done)
Amazing World of Gumball #1 Grab Bag (For the kids and gonna try and snag the variant for me)
Disciples #4 (I’m still curious as to what’s going to happen but at the same time I’m not as excited anymore about this comic)

I think I’m gonna be under my budget unless I end up finding some variants and what not at cover!

    1. Oh and I’m dropping Postal. Not because I don’t like it but because it’s a comic I’m going to wait on the TPB now to continue reading.

        1. Cutting back on singles and yeah, I actually like binge reading. It’s hard to keep up with what’s going on with some of my pulls, don’t have time to go back and reread.

      1. I hear you. Sometimes I think of going to all trades. It would be cheaper but I can’t bring myself to wait that long in between most of the stories. I have a few books that I jumped on late that I buy in trade but it’s a small minority.

      1. Oh the Exorcist homage was just awesome. That’s my favorite horror movie of all time. It’s the only movie to make me feel uncomfortable (probably because I watch it alone and in the complete dark when I do).

      1. Yeah, it had so much more potential in my opinion.. but I’m leaning towards the “meh” as well. Unless something happens soon, hopefully to end first arc.. might not last, perhaps get pushed to TPB pickups to check out later.

    2. Disciples #4
Bloodthirst #1 (from Titan comics, was recommended to me by the same guy who recommended We Can Never Go Home)
      Hail Hydra #3

  2. This week’s picks are;

    Batman annual #4
    Spread #10
Zodiac Starforce #2 (for the wife)
From under mountains #1 ( Tony’s pick so I am going to give it a try since the cover art looks good)

        1. Poor trees.. now you got me thinking twice about collecting. Can’t be having dead trees on my conscious when picking up my weekly comics. Perhaps I should go full digital?

  3. But so true. I told my wife that I wanted to go all digital and not collect books any more. She almost slapped me. She gave me this apocalyptic lecture and I was all like ” oh yeah huh” lol. I just wanted to see what she would say lol

    1. I get a confusing look when people tell me they read digital comics.
      IT’S NOT THE SAME !!
You need that physical touch; it brings a much richer experience than swiping a damn finger across a screen.

Plus, collecting is non-existent with digital; and we all love to collect 🙂 (and sell)

      1. I don’t mind digital for reading but about every digital book I own I also have a physical copy (Mostly Marvel). I definitely don’t buy digital on it’s own (only once though, had to buy Strain #2 and #3 cause I couldn’t find physical copies for cheap to actually read at the time, getting them for cheap at like $1 each. I wouldn’t pay full cover price for digital ever).

  4. Hip Hop Family tree-All but Gone at my LCS
The Chair blank-these flew off the shelf
Gum Ball variant -only 1 which is weird
Grim fairy tales Silence of the lambs cover–these were scarce also
    blood thirst
Enormous-they only had 1 cover grrrr

    1. Hip Hop Family Tree only at one shop of the 3 I visited.
The Chair – 4 copies at one shop (I grabbed two of them cause I’m a bastard), none at another shop and probably about 8-10 at one other.
Gum Ball Variant – None except one store at $10.. I caved (only because I was staying within budget).

I also picked up Blood Thirst as well.. art looked good and it was very slim pickings at every shop.

        1. Yeah, I put back down.. then picked back up myself. I’m a sucker + I stayed within budget so that was the only other factor in picking it up.

  5. Archie #3: I’m worried about Archie Comics with news about their lay-offs.
Drifter #8: It keeps teetering on the edge of my pull list. It gets pulled this week. It’s safe for now…
Hip Hop Family Tree #2: loving having these awesome books in new monthly “layaway” format
M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #5: This has been a great ride!
S.H.I.E.L.D. #10: #9 reignited my interest in this series. For Howard, why the hell not!?

    1. I wouldn’t worry too much about Archie Comics.. they’d sell the rights off to another publisher most likely to keep on printing them.

  6. small week for me
    1. M.O.D.O.K. 5 – So entertaining. Hope he gets a book at some point in the new relaunch
    2. Spread 10 – I stopped grabbing all the new Image #1s. I’m now just collecting a handful of excellent Image titles, probably until the series ends completely. This is one of those titles.
    3. Archie 3 – Staples cover. I’m only gonna collect the first four while Staples is still doing art.
    4. Justice League 44

I’ll say this about digital comics. I love collecting the physical copy, for many of the reasons already mentioned. I love going to my LCS and I love the collector/speculator appeal of having the physical copies. However, I love what Marvel does with giving away the free digital code. Because reading online is so convenient. I can read a book on my phone wherever I am whenever I have some time to kill. I wish Image and DC did the same thing. I’ll always buy the physical copy, but a digital copy is a great perk in my opinion.

    1. Completely agree. I don’t buy much Marvel, Star Wars is my only title that has the digital code, but that’s how I read it to my kids. I read the paper version myself first, and then read it to them off of the iPad. No worries about damage!

  7. Postal #7 I’m still loving this series.
Sons of the Devil #5 A very intriguing read and I can’t wait to see how it’s going to play out.
Wonder Woman 77 #2 picking this up for the wife (even though she never read the first issue I got her).

I’m dropping Barb Wire. The first issue seemed like a fun read with a punk rock nod, it’s turned out to be a silly waste of $4.
Also dropping Rebels. I’ve enjoyed the series but it’s kind of slow and maybe a tad boring? The end of the first arc seems like a good jumping off point. I might pick this up in trade. This is one of those series that would probably read better collected.

    1. Yeah, I liked Rebels but it is certainly a slow slow build up of a story. I’m probably going to do the same, switch to TPB now for start of second arc.

        1. Yeah, I originally read it was a 6 issue mini-series. I guess sales are good enough to keep it ongoing. It’s definitely setup for all kinds of story lines for sure.

      1. It wasn’t a book I was originally going to get but my shop recommended it to me. Because it was only a 6 issue mini series I added it to the pull list.

So dropped 2, but added 2 (Violent and Snow Blind). So I’m even.

      1. No, It’s out next week. I’m going to notify my shop that I’ll take the issue next week but not anymore after that. Hopefully they can readjust orders on that title.
Are you actually enjoying the title or just looking for an investment opportunity?

  8. Archie #3
    Batman Annual #4
    Justice League #44
Rick and Morty #6 (Both Covers)
    Godzilla in Hell #3
    Sandman Overture #6

  9. I asked my comic shop and they will get there copies of The Chair next week. So I might pick a copy then. Also had anyone read justice League 44 to see who dies? Cuz I want to pick it up but only if a good character dies lol
