Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/18/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 5/18/16:

Returning Favorites
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #5– it has been too long since this Archie horror book has been out. Top of my read stack.
Beauty #7– after the trade paperback hiatus, Beauty is back with a new storyline. If you haven’t read Beauty, check out the TPB and jump in.
Haunted Mansion #3– awesome comic based on the ride. The previous issues have done well.
Southern Bastard #14– Jason Aaron and Jason Latour return to their gritty southern noir series.
Black Eyed Kids #2– I am in on this book because of the story. This could translate well into a media property. And with big money backers behind Aftershock, bet on it happening.
Dept. H #2– Matt Kindt. That is all you need to know.
The Only Big Press book on the List
Future Quest #1– DC’s reimagining of the classic cartoons begins here. There are 7 covers to the book (ugh) but I will be grabbing a Space Ghost
Small Press Gems
Tank Girl 2 Girls 1 Tank #1– Seriously, the name grabs me alone. Two Tank Girls from different realities. I love Tank Girl, and the previous series performed well. Going to try to snag the Shakey kane cover.
Brutal Nature #1– by Ariel Olivetti. A collection of masks transforms the young man known as Ich into innumerable different beasts and monsters. Using this ancient power, he embarks on a battle that pits the indigenous people of Colombia against the encroaching Spanish empire. But can one man hope to beat back the massive forces of the conquering Spaniards? Very interesting concept on this one. Worth the look. I am shooting for the subscription covers on this series
Archangel #1– William Gibson, the father of cyberpunk, brings his work to comics. Previous “legitimate writer” comics haven’t always failed well on the secondary market but I can see this being an Amazon seller book for a long time.
The Reprints
Dark Souls #1 2nd Print– There was a time people paid no attention to reprints. Now it’s a different story. Look for this one as it has the best cover yet in the series.
Black Road #1 2nd Print– Rarely does an Image comic go back to a second print anymore. So you know it is something special. The first issue is engaging and lays out an interesting series. Black Road #2 is also out this week.
The Pick of the Week
Chum #1– Small press books have been popping off the shelf lately. I am a big fan of Comixtribe comics and this beach crime book looks excellent. Think Pulp Fiction on the sand.
