We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.
The 85th edition of the open forum!
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?

  1. My pickups this week:
    Monstress #6
    Tokyo ghost #7
    Scooby Apocalypse #1
    DC Bombshells #13
    Bloodshot Reborn #13
    Divinity II #2
I’ve got to try and save some money for the Washington DC Awesome-Con!!!! June 3-5…. Anyone else gonna be there?

    1. I will be there, can only go on Sunday. This will be my 3rd year going, I missed the first year because I didn’t know about it until I read about it in the newspaper a week later.

  2. This weeks pickups…..
Batman #232 1st appearance Ra’s al Ghul. Prob about a 5.0-4.0 needed it for my Batman villains collection.
Journey into Mystery #103 1st Enchantress, 1st Executioner. Been wanting this for Enchantress appearance with movie news for executioner had to get it now or pay more later. Solid mid grade $115
Adventure Comics #260 1st SA Aquaman. This book falls thru the cracks as Showcase #30 1st Titled Aquaman 1st cover. Gets a great deal of attention recently, as well as Aquaman #1. But Adventure Comics predates them all! He’s not on the cover but it is considered his first origin.
Captain America Living Legend #1 1:50 vintage variant. Low print run cool covers.
    Strange Tales #178 1st Magus.
We stand on Guard #1 thanks for the great CHU articles.
    For the flip box…
    5x Walking Dead #130
5x Xmen #229 1st Reavers, 1st Gateway just supposedly confirmed a couple hours ago Reavers will be in Wolverine 3 don’t know who’s making them or controlling them yet but got this at $2 each NM. Among the rest of the villains speculated and rumored to appear Donald Pierce, Lady Deathstrike, Sinister, and Sabretooth as well as highly rumored X-23.
2x Action Comics #340 1st Parasite as long as nice copies for low prices keep coming my way I’ll keep buying them. Mycomicshop already has these listed in the hundreds I’m still getting them for $15-$40. Rumored to be the villain in Man of Steel 2’s recently turned in screenplay.
Also I need help with the whole DC rebirth what should I buy what should I pass on? It’s been rather confusing with all the Superman stuff as of late.

    1. 130 may be a little bit underrated as first Whisperers. Not saying it will be as big as the first alpha appearances, but I think it’s a worthwhile pickup at cover that you never hear about.

  3. Also had no idea there was a Hawaii comic con with Robert Kirkman attending. Saw no advertisement for it whatsoever looks like it was not only poorly advertised but barely attended. The videos of Robert Kirkman talking show a bunch of empty seats and like 5 people asking Kirkman questions. Among one of the questions asked and answered, Who will die in the Walking Dead? His first response was” Rick, Carl, Michonne, ” then goes on to say “in the show Daryl Dixon eventually. Abraham, Rosita, and Jesus” who knows what that actually means but wish I was there.

  4. 7 copies of henchgirl off to cgc
Did you see that Stofmwatch 4 9.8 that sold for almost $500 this week?
    Space ghost
    Joker 1 1975
Any key or pre-unity Valiant books, they are close to announcing actors and release dates for Bloodshot and Harbinger
Superman Family 192 and World of Krypton 1 & 3 1987 Krypton TV Pilot confirmed and ordered.

  5. Finally found a Menace #7 in good shape. Grabbed a couple $6 Famous Monsters back issues. Still looking for a decent priced Shock Suspenstories 7, hoping to find one at the garage sales I’ve been staking out. Have to save the rest for my CGC submissions. Stan Lee autos on those old PCH books are going to pay off big one day. I can’t wait to feast my eyes on them!

  6. Well, it’s a big week for me this week. Good thing I didnt buy that phone last week I was thinking about!
This week I will be getting:
    afterlife with archie
    back to the future
    rebirth
    deadpool
    grayson
    image +
    justice league
    justice league 3001
    scooby doo
    spiderman/deadpool
    star wars
    superman
    asm
    flash
    thor
    uncanny inhumans
I may throw in lois and clark and captain america last minute, but I’m not 100% sure on that. Im spending a ton as it is on my usual books this week, I dont know if I have it in the budget to spec….Im a collector first, spec second.

    1. I’m in Canada, so i pay what you pay, plus exchange rate on top of that. It adds up! Believe me! And to think, about a year ago we paid American cover price in Canadian $. sigh

  7. Lois and Clark 1 regular cover is starting to move up to the 10+ range. Glad to see this book is becoming somewhat profitable, given the variant is going for so much.

  8. Definite pick ups this week:
    Rachel Rising 42
    Monstress 6
    Tokyo Ghost 7
    Squirrel Girl 8
    Rick & Morty 14
    Maybe:
Scooby Doo 1 just for the Velma cover. Velma was one of my early crushes (along with Carol Kane as Simka on Taxi).
    Coming in the mail:
House of Mystery 175 (1st Cain from Sandman)
Saga of the Swamp Thing 21 CGC 9.6 (Moore’s Swamp Thing origin)
    Thoughts:
    1) I’m a huge Wacky Races fan but I’m pretty nervous about the new series coming.
    2) I went to the Lineworks NW, an illustration and comics festival in Portland, this past weekend. I’ve gone every year since it started in 2014 and in past years, I’ve picked up signed books by people such as Jim Woodring (Jim), Farel Dalrymple (Prophet), Daniel Clowes (Ghost World), Michel Fiffe (Copra), and Alexis Ziritt (Space Riders). This year, even with the inclusion of a comic swap in the basement, there was not much for me. The only guest I even vaguely knew of was the creator of Parappa the Rapper. It was a free show and a lot of people showed up, making it very crowded. Local reviews applauded it as another success. But, it may be the last time I go… until I go again next year.

    1. Glad I am not alone in my Velma fascination. Man I loved Parappa 1 and even Un Jammer Lammy. Parappa 2 just didn’t have the same vibe. Seriously, Chop Chop Onions song was the best. And the weed smoking lizard at the swap meet.

      1. I love me some Velma as well. That picture you posted I think of last years NY Comic Con with Velma I had to save to my own computer.. I hope she’s there again so I can tell her how much I love her.. and now I’m just getting downright creepy..
As for Scooby Apocalypse, Velma and Daphne were flying off shelves, very limited. But surprisingly as I’m grabbing my copies, I found it odd that the hardest to find for me was the Shaggy cover. Two stores had none available and another had just 2.
One store was limiting DC Rebirth to one copy per person. Supposedly they were claiming it’s that good of a read. One employee said something about Geoff Johns stating that if you are not happy with the story, he will personally reimburse you if you send him the comic. I have not confirmed if this is true.

        1. I should buy an extra to send him just to get the check. There were some amazing Velma’s at NYCC last year. One for indigent when I asked if I could take a picture for the site.

      2. YOU HAVE TO TONY!
How many collectors will have a cheque from wither the man himself or at least DC comics! Plus, small value cheques are hilarious.

        1. Yes. I love taking checks to the bank for $3.00 and less. Got a couple of checks from a class action suit recently it annoys the bank n

  9. Went to my local shop at open to make sure I could get a Lois and Clark 8, not only was I able to grab 2 of those but there was also a rebirth 1 black and white variant for 5.99….SCORE!

  10. Also found and picked up, blowing my budget for the week:
Lois & Clark 8: there were only about 5 copies on the shelf when the lcs opened
Scooby Doo 1 Velma: No Shaggys & only two Velmas at opening. As I went to reach for a Velma, a woman customer muscled her way past me to grab one copy, so I got the last one.
Preacher free preview: Lcs set out a small stack. I don’t like taking more than one. If they are there next week I might get another.
Free Monstress bookmark: Can’t have too many bookmarks. My Goon bookmarks are starting to show signs of use.

  11. Long time lurker, first time poster. I had to chirp in seeing as I found a Lois and Clark #1 1:25 in the back issue bin at my LCS this past weekend. It cost me $20 CDN but I turned and flipped it for $110 US the other day. I went back today and was able to grab Lois and Clark #1 reg (x2), Convergence Superman #2 reg (x2) and the variant (x2), Justice League #30 (x2), #31, Green Lantern #20, Walking Dead #132 (x5), #154 (x4) and a Haunted Mansion #1 reg and variant. Now to decide what to flip and what to hold.

    1. For my weekly pick ups I grabbed a Rebirth, Scooby (Velma), Justice League #50 reg & variant, Superman #52 reg and variant, Star Wars #19, Aliens Defiance #2, Awesome Hulk #6, Extraordinary X-Men #10, ASM #1.5, and a Smosh #1 (just as a spec) that was sitting on the shelf. I also missed out out on a Before Watchmen:DM #4 for $2, by mere seconds on Sunday. I went to purchase it from an online store that is based close to where i live, I put it in my cart, shopped for a few minutes and when I checked out, it had been sold already. Doh.

      1. I kept seeing Smosh #1 but it wasn’t untill my 9 year old pointed out that she likes the show on youtube that I was interested in checking it out. I am waiting untill I put together a short run of Scooby Apocalypse like #1-#4. The drop off will be huge for issues 2,3,and 4.I have a collection of all DC comics Scooby doo.Over 300.With the Harley Quinn team up and Scooby Apocalypse there is a ton of new interest again in Scooby. At the 2 conventions I’ve been at TMNT books are moving at way above guide but the first Casey Jones. Bebop, Karai. Everyone that collects Tmnt already has these books in multiples. They are not that hard to find and are selling under guide. If history tells us anything They will not see a rise in value because of the movie.

    2. Hey JCLU. Lurkers are always welcome. One thing you will find is we are a pretty friendly bunch and love hearing about pick ups and good fortune. It is always cool to find something that people missed out on or skipped over that is worth good money.

      1. Thanks for the kind words. I used to read comics when I was a kid, back in the early nineties, and got back into them about 14 months ago when I went to my LCS to buy a TPB of V for Vendetta. While I was there I noticed a copy of Batman #39 on the shelf, the one with the Joker sitting on a throne of bodies. It peaked my interest so I picked it up and quickly went out and bought the TPB of Court of Owls. Sniders story and Capullos art, which I recognized from my childhood days of reading early Spawn issues, had me hooked. Since that fateful day last spring I have been back into reading comics and really enjoying them (and starting to spend way to much cash). I really like the Star Wars and Vader titles, was really enjoying Batman, we will see where it goes with the new team of creators, and i am now getting back into some Marvel (which is what I read almost exclusively growing up). ASM ( Peter Parker, havent tried Morales yet), OML, New Wolvie, Hulk and some X titles. I also really enjoy TWD, and managed to grab a copy of #91 and up for good prices about a year ago. I have been enjoying the articles on CHU and have decided to try and see if I can flip some books, starting with that 1:25 L&C #1, to help pay for the books in my PC. Makes the hobby that little bit more gratifying and justified, I find. I found a Wolverine #80 (first x-23 test tube), a Wolverine #7-8 (Patches and Fixit story, classic cover on #8), ASM 302-390ish (2nd Venom, most McFarlane ASMs, 1st Carnage, 1st Kletus Kassidy), Secret Wars #8 (1st black costume, 1st symbiote), XMen (1991) #1-#3 signed by Chris Claremont, all the early X-Force (2nd & 3rd Deadpool, 1st Domino), Simpsons #1, Itchy and Scratchy #1, Ren and Stimpy #1, Smurfs #1, GIJoe Special Missions #1, Web of Spiderman #1, Superman #75 in black poly (1st Death of), Knightfall complete story set, Venom #1 series 1, Deadpool Circle Chase #1-4, Spawn #9 (1st Angela), Infinity War #1-#6 (1991?), among a few others in my collection from when I was a kid. Most NM in bags with boards (ive always been slightly OCD, even as a 10 year old boy), a few slightly beat up. I have every issue of Next Men up to but excluding Hellboys 1st appearance, which I dont have, lol, doh. Any ways, sorry for the novel here, no post of mine will ever be this long again, just wanted to introduce myself. Cheers, and happy hunting.

        1. Sounds like you have a nice collection going already. I have collected since I was 10, took some time off here and there but never fully got out of it. I have turned my love of comics into a full time thing, in addition to my regular job. I had two copies of the Nextmen with the first Hellboy, paid a dollar each for “some crap” at a store that didn’t know what he was doing and probably shouldn’t have been in the business (no longer is).

    3. Ha ha I’m in the same boat with you on Next Men. I went up to #16 and that’s when I fell out of comics for a while.

      1. It is a good start to my collection. Ive always liked Spidey, Venom and the symbiotes, Bats, Lobo (pre 52), Wolverine and McFarlane(I know hes a wiener, but Ive loved his work since i was a kid, and hes a canuck, like me). So Im starting my collection there. Ive picked up the 1st Toxin, 1st Anti-Venom (variant) and 1st Agent Venom to go along with my 1st and 2nd prints of ASM #361. Now I need a coveted ASM #300 which will be my crown jewel for my Spidey collection and my McFarlane collection. Ive grabbed a 1st Dakken, cameo and full and probably will never own a NYX 1st x-23 or Incredible Hulk 1st Wolvie. Got an Omega Men 1st Lobo and have a complete New 52 Batman and Suicide Squad that I managed to collect last spring at my local comic con, when I first got back into reading. Got a NM+ 1st print New 52 Batman for $60 CDN. The most I spent on any book.

  12. I got a chance to go to 3 shops today pick ups include……..
    Spider-Man / Deadpool #1 5th , #5

    Moon Knight #1 1st print
I already pre-ordered every cover for Scooby-Doo Apocalypse so I did not get any more, but 2 stores only had the regular cover.

  13. Despite the insaine waits between issues I have to say that afterlife with Archie is the best written book going at the moment. And Frankavilla’s art and layouts are brilliant.
Not much has excited me recently and I could give to 2 figs for the DC/superman rebirth stuff going on at the moment so it’s been light for me.
    Monstress is great.
Still collecting the stupid Star Wars action figures.
Fear and loathing is in my top 5 books of all time so looking forward to reading that.
Got walking dead 10 and 27 for gray prices and they are as NM as you will ever see so that has been awesome.
Mainly just been buying stuff to read, the spec has lost its luster for me recently but good luck to everyone still fighting the good fight.
Oh, and Megg and mogg in Amsterdam was aces too. Cheers all.

  14. Just read Squarriors Summer #1. This book is just very cool and I am glad it is back. The art can be rather startling at times in its brutality.Just a fair warning.

      1. I have been digging this book. Dark and Bloody also works well when you read it before or right after Harrow County. Almost like they are written about the same place in different time periods.

  18. All I can say is Frickkkk, had a car appointment next to the comic shop today decided to go to the comic store after my appointment instead of before so my daughter could play at the playground. Get to the comic store Jim Lee was there for about an hour with a couple guys from System of a Down, Jim is here on vacation. Missed him by 15mins if I went before my appointment would got to meet him. Sigh….

    1. Hey Alana. After reading this, I contacted the comic store in Maui to see if they had any Jim Lee signed Rebirth or Scooby copies but they said they were sold out. However, the owner gave me a hot tip. Go to the 7:30pm showing of X-Men Apocalypse at the Maui Mall tomorrow and he will be there. If you go, maybe get a copy signed for me? ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. If I find him he’s going to hate me have 16 books for him to sign Xmen books and the Batman Hush run can’t find where my superman unchaineds are. Thinking of bringing one of the bases to my sideshow premium format Superman or Batman statues to get signed as well. Also have a 4 foot long DC painting with a couple of his covers on it hanging in the house would be cool to get signed. But that’s probably a bit much. Lol. Would look kind of funny standing in front of a movie theatre premiering the new Xmen movie holding a 4 foot sign that says DC in big letters looking for Jim Lee.

  22. The last several days of hunting for me was all Before Watchmen Dr Manhattan. Ended up with 5 total sets and the variants of #1 & #4. Very profitable flips!

      1. Was a lot of driving around since the Dr M news dropped, but that’s every week for me pretty much. 2 of the sets I found were on Tuesday, so not every shop was hit immediately.
I still have to go to a couple spots in the sticks today, one where I found Henchgirl #1 a few weeks ago, so there’s a good chance of scoring big

  23. My work shift was switched to nighttime, so sent my daughter and her father to find Jim Lee. After a couple hours waiting they found him!!! They got 4 of the 20 books I sent with them signed guess he was running late to the movie. Xmen #1 Platnium, Xmen #248, Xmen #4 1st Omega Red, and Batman #612. So happy!!! Thanks Jim
