Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 6/1/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery Wednesday 6/1/16:

Returning Favorites
Chum #2– the first issue of this new indie “Surf Noir” left me wanting more.
Deadly Class #21– Rick Remender’s book about a school of assassins. It is a great read.
Enormous #6 – Finally! the last issue of the second season hits the stands.
Goddamned #4 – extreme biblical tales by the twisted mind of Jason Aaron.
Killbox #2 – Small indie book with small print run. Good story and art. Must pick up this American Gothic Press book.
Moon Knight #3 – Best damned interpretation of Moon Knight in a while. Also out this week is Punisher #2. Two Marvel books that make the list for me.
New #1’s
Control #1 – New crime series from Dynamite by Andy Diggle. Takes place in DC. Seems of interest.
Death Force #1 – while most people write Zenescope off as T&A books, they actually put out some good stories, especially their monthly horror book. This is their take on a supernatural Punisher.
The One with the Walking and the Dead
Walking Dead #155 – Cannot pass this one up each month. Always on the list. Get two.
Small Press Gem
TMNT Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything #1 – What happens when two of the Turtles biggest villains hit the time stream? Chaos and fun.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Bolts #1 – Action Labs puts out some great very small print run books. This was featured in the Big Gems from the Small Press a few months back. A continuing adventure of Frankenstein.

During a brutal attack by the townspeople in his own time, Frank is torn apart and loses one of his neck bolts as well as his memory. After Frank’s mangled body is pieced back together by a mysterious and powerful being, he is thrown into a new and strange dimension. He suddenly finds himself faced with merciless monsters and the looming watchful eyes of creatures in the shadows. After crossing paths with Casey, a scavenger with a penchant for trouble, Frank doesn’t have to fight alone but the road ahead only grows more perilous. Amid all the blood soaked violence, Frank also fights an inner battle of whether to become the spiteful villain or righteous hero of this new adventure!

Dark Souls #2– First one sold out and went to a second print. Demand was strong on the book. Will not miss this one. Smaller print run could mean more of a demand. Already sold out on some of the bigger on-line shops.
Pick of the Week
Night Trap #1 – from Lions Forge. Small press horror usually does well in the long term. This one could be a grower. Could be hard to find. Oh, and it is Cullen Bunn who is no stranger to being optioned.

When a group of college kids rent a lake house for the weekend, they’re hoping for some relaxation and fun. Instead, they find an inescapable death trap! From one of the most critically acclaimed horror writers in comics comes a chilling tribute to the genre’s most memorable slasher classics!

      1. This might get people to seek out the graphic novel, but this I think will give it more exposure for sure.

    1. I did not realize they were adding bonus content. Plus the hard cover has a sweet fold out center that is huge. Seriously one of my favorite reads ever. Read it while we were in the hospital delivering Joe.

  1. Goddamned has been a fascinatingly dark and mature Bible story. Often anything bible-related that is released as a comic is all cutesy, happy, and for kids. This reads like a brutal and angry take on the Bible–with writer Jason Aaron having himself admitted in interviews the comic is a way for him to come to terms with his Southern Baptist upbringing and eventual casting-off of it.
