Wednesday Winner: Flash Rebirth #1

It is nice to walk into stores and pick up your comics on Wednesday night. It is even nicer when some of the books you picked up can be sold for multiple times cover price by the end of the day.Flash Rebirth #1 is one of them.
Like many of the Rebirth books, Flash Rebirth #1 is sold out and going to a second print. Copies have been selling for up to $22 dollars, with most selling for around $10-$15. The Variant has also been selling in the $10-$14 range.
This Wednesday has been one of the best flipping weeks in a while. Hopefully the Rebirth books keep hitting like they have been, they are definitely worth watching out for.

  1. My local comic shop had a few of the regular cover left by the time I got there.Got one but had to pick up the variant and the Wonder woman variant from an online dealer I use sometimes for double cover. Looks like DC may have a hit with rebirth. We’ll see.

  2. I’m really interested in seeing the comichron numbers. It feels like this has been a little over hyped. DC isn’t renumbering every year like Marvel and I wonder where a lot of these DC issues are going to be a year from now. Flash could be the Batman from 2011.

  3. Does anyone have any actual researched information on price speculation for the Rebirth comics? I have noticed most new comics like this tend to shoot up to the $10 mark shortly after release on Ebay. I have however, not seen many bids on any of these. Currently all the rebirths are priced about the same. What I’m wondering is will the price go up or drop back down in the future? And what other comics in the past have followed the same pattern? I would assume the price wouldn’t drop before the series ends but am I wrong?

    1. Since rebirth is the ongoing series/universe I don’t think any price drops will be because of that. But the Rebirth #1 one shots are a tough call. Not sure if books like Wonder Woman #1 or Wonder Woman Rebirth #1 will be the long term winners, have to see how it shakes out. I initially thought it would be the #1’s proper but Rebirth is defying expectation. I would not say most new comics shoot up to the $10 mark after release, but some do. From there it is popularity and demand to continue to drive prices up or reader ennui and under cutters that drive the prices down slightly. On big print run books it can happen quickly. There are books, too numerous to name, that have followed this pattern. I will mention one, Henchgirl #1 that shot up in price to about $15, and then leveled off for months before taking a meteoric rise back up.

      1. This is pretty much my thought on these. I didn’t mean most new comics in general but most new comics like this. As in first issues or key issues in hyped comics. 1st issues of most DC or Marvel character comics not including all spin offs seem to jump up quickly. This also seems to be the case with new indie comics with a good amount of pre-release hype. In the case of Rebirth I too am curious as to whether people will treat it as essentially an episode #0 of the new series and if it will be valued more than the actual #1s. As for examples I wouldn’t consider Henchgirl to be quite like the #1s in this case, as that was the #1 of a brand new comic that took off, as apposed to a #1 of a new series of existing characters. Not to mention Henchgirl was a MUCH smaller print run than anything like the Rebirths. My question is more concerning what the pricing pattern was for previous DC #1s such as the New 52s immediately after release vs now and even later on down the road.

        1. I will talk to Terry Harkness about getting his top 500 List or his hot comic calendar that’s a pretty good barometer for books they got hot and when they got hot from there you should be able to look at what the current prices are and looking at clothes auctions when the process started to go down.

  4. overhyped by DC or by the buyers. Flash Rebirth 1 is amazingly easy to sell right now. I don’t think there’s as many copies out there as people think. There was talk of Green Arrow having 90k copies sold so that might be a starting point.

      1. I don’t read Green Arrow.. I don’t watch Green Arrow and I really don’t plan on doing either in my lifetime.. 😉

    1. Well im not sure what im doing “wrong” i mean i have 100% review i just dont have to many sales thats prob why something like this i dont come out fist page for best match or something. I took anthonys advice and didnt include the shipping , making them pay for it now, hopefully it will help close the deal. Im looking at recent sales and trying to match it best as possible or even trying to undercut it. Idk what else im suppose to do

  5. 1st 2 shops I hit up yesterday were sold out and the 3rd one was the charm.
I got one regular, which I read and it was surprisingly good. Seems to pick up right where the DC Rebirth one shot left off, so it’s a good flow for the “new continuity.” Also got 4 of the variants with a minimal amount of pink ink. Sold one for $15 so that paid for the whole load. Huzzah!
Going through the back issue pins I scored way under priced copies of Avengers #69 and #83.
    Been a very good week

    1. Sounds like it. I wish I knew you were at philly Wizard world. I read some of your comments on other boards and seemed like you had a good time experience. Mine was not so great and I missed so much. I haven’t been the Wizard world and over 7 years

  6. Honestly if i cant profit it least $5 its not worth it. Im not a business dont have 50 copies of each , i need it least $5 to make it worth while for all the leg work

    1. I love comics. Doesn’t feel like work at all. It’s a hobby it should be fun. And if I can sell a book I bought for 3$ And get 10$ towards something I’ve wanted for awhile then even better! The important thing is to not get too caught up in what you are missing and enjoy yourself. Just my opinion.

      1. I agree 100% I still love reading comics I read comics daily I read comics all day but I also like the chase of finding bargains that I can sell for more and flipping new comics I’ve built quite a business off it. But I enjoy all aspects of it not just reading not just the Chase not just the flipping not just the writing about comics not just interacting with other people on the website but the total package of it

    2. I’ll take a few bucks profit any day of the week. I am first a reader, second a collector.. then I’ll flip when I can.
The way I see it is.. most of my profit from comics I use to buy more comics. If I”m going to be at the comic book store picking up my reads every week and there’s a book I can possibly flip for some extra money, then yes, I’ll pick up two or 3 copies. If I can sell 1 book out of the 2 or 3 I bought and sell it for 2 – 3 times cover price, then I broke even or made a little bit of profit. My goal is to break even, then essentially I collect comic books for free..

      1. Ya thats my point your saying flip it for 2-3 times the price thsts my point exactly. If i bought it for $3 selling it for it least $8 makes sense thats right in the $2-3 range. But for someone that hae 50 copies then ya even a $1 profit makes sense cause thats $50 profit. But if your like me and you and got 2-3 copies, you need it least 2-3 times profit. And there is leg work cause your at the store picking up the best comic for of the person ur selling to. Im even first in line in the morning and getting first dibs and making sure the person gets the best comic possible. Then i go tp the post office and mail it so ya lots of leg work it least for me

      2. I have not paid for comics that I read in years that was the whole point of the site to show other people what I was buying to pay for other comics now I’m a cash and cash out business that does turn a profit on sales. It’s wonderful

      3. I agree with the rule that more feedback at 100% gets more sale thats what sucks ablut being new im losing customers to older cats, it sucks , its not that i dont have 100% i just dont got 1000 reviews

        1. Put in your time. When a lot of us “older cats”, I have been selling on eBay since 2003, we didn’t have sites like this to give us tips. We didn’t have sites like this to tell us what to look for or what is getting hot. We didn’t have sites like this to tell us what book is someone’s first appearance. In fact, a lot of us older cats did it on our own and had to earn each and everyone of those positive feedbacks despite customers never leaving feedback, eBay changing the rules constantly. We earned our stripes.

    3. On the 299 book that you can get a discount on that you can sell for $10-$12 it’s more than a five dollar spread there. I live very close to two comic shops and work right across the street from the post office. I can balance out lower profit fucks with higher volume because I’m a very minimal work

      1. Same here and most don’t realize, you can schedule USPS pick ups as well, right at your house. Two of the comic shops I frequent are a 1/2 mile away from one another and if I do have to drop off packages, I literally drive by two different post offices on the way to work (depending on where I’m going that day, since I’m a full time contractor/consultant nowadays).

      2. Like i said if the book is $3 and your selling it for $10 then ya it is more then a $5 profit, which is my whole point, you need it least that. And idk about others but when i know a book can flip im there first in the morning getting them the best copy possible so for that alone i expect a $5 profit. For someone saying one penny profit or one dollor profit then im sure thats fine when its a comic you just pick up or happen to have, but when i take extra time to show up early and grab the best copies possible im gonna want it least $5 profit, at the end of the day no matter how close u are to everythinng its sill leg work. Also depends how many u sell, ur selling a hundred a $1 each adss up, but when your selling once in a while then ya u want a better flip then $1

      3. Tis why I love Marvel with the digital codes.. I read on my tablet and never see any ads. DC should do the same with their comics… provide a digital code with every book.

  7. @krw- if you are still looking for copies in San Diego, call on comic ground. I just got a copy for my PC. I got 1 flash, 1 WW, and 1 detective.

  8. For me personally when it comes to flipping, as long as I get my $ back and plus some whether it’s 1 penny or 1 dollar, I am cool with that. My prices are low, I make a quick sale and I don’t have to hoarder the book. It has happened to where I get burned on books and I later have to sell them below what I paid.

    1. I too have some contacts for less than I paid for but in the general scheme of things I am way more up that I ever take a loss on so sometimes just getting rid of the book for less money is the cost of doing business you win some you lose some but as long as you’re winning more than losing your head of the game

      1. I feel like that works for people that sell a lot , but for peeps that do once in a while flips, rebirth hasint been all that, its been great for people that got like 50 copies and can profit a dollar or more from each, but reg dudes with few copies aint worth all that for $1 each

      2. Well not really no. If you bought it for $3 and your selling for $10 with shipping included then no. $3 for the comic plus $5 for shipping plus the 10% ebay takes your done. Only way a $10 comic makes profit if there paying for shipping which now makes it $15 and ive been checking ebay all day. Barley any are selling for $15 total thats comic and shipping. Ive had mines below those prices even and people aint biting. No bueno

        1. Who said anything about shipping included. In fact, more people will pay for shipping if it is not included over free shipping. It’s been proven over and over.

      3. Jay, I see you’ve posted the same thing several times on several different threads. As others have said… where is this One Penny profit, One Dollar profit commentary coming from? I’m not seeing anyone advocating buying books to make a $1 profit here. I’m not a big-business, big-time flipper either; I only have so much $$ to work with; and these Rebirth books have been a no-brainer. Almost all of them are selling well, and with the potential to do even better.

      4. I’ve made really good profit off rebirth and they pay shipping….Probably 4 to 5x cover average. If you’re only making $1 you’re doing it wrong

      5. I didnt say sold at at local shops, he mentioned there were sold out on gamestop and hot topic and I was simpliy pointing out that there not sold on on those websites, said nothing about local stores. And i checked ebay and there going for the same price as there going for on those websites so i dont see any big profits here that his mentioning. Website has it for 12 and ebay has it for 14. Not to me tion u have to pay for shipping to get the item online so its a wash

      6. I never do free shipping unless it’s one comic, it can ship First Class (unless they buy two comics with decent profit and I throw it in a flat rate Priority envelope) and I know I’m already making $10 – $15 or more profit (after shipping costs)..

      1. Most annoying thing on ebay is when u see someone sold ur same item but your selling it for a lower cost, its like hello person do ur research u just paid more for a comic when u didnt have to , whats a brother got to do to sell something here

      2. Sometimes people will go with those that provide more detailed pics that you can zoom in. Some provide cheaper shipping options (sometimes it’s cheaper just because they might live closer to the first class or priority mail is lowered cause it doesn’t need to travel further… ).. lots of factors. Some even go as far as having favorite dealers they buy from.. feedback is a factor as well. You have 30 feedback and 100% rating.. someone with 1000 feedback at 100% rating might get the sale before you..

        1. I am like 1239 100% now or something crazy plus power seller and top rated seller so my auctions rank higher in the search than others who are not a power seller of a top rated seller giving mine more exposure.

          1. Yeah, that helps as well. I’m a power seller for my account where I sell stripped computer parts… maybe I’ll switch and start listing comics there to beat all you schmucks at selling hot comics.. 😉

      3. I find that annoying, too. I have over 5,000 positive feedback, I purposely undercut others’ shipping costs, and have detailed photos (so much so that others steal my photos to pass off as their own, and eBay does nothing about it because I don’t spend the time to watermark them… even though they all have the same unique backdrop and were obviously MY photos uploaded first… but eBay doesn’t care…)… but sometimes my items just aren’t being seen, and go unsold, while other sellers items are selling, and at a higher price than mine.
There are other factors, like eBay’s “Best Match”, which every account defaults to if you don’t change it; and sometimes your item title prevents your item from being seen. I recently found that including a pound symbol between the title and issue number with No Spaces renders it invisible. ie/ “Avengers#2” gets omitted from searches for “Avengers 2”. This did not used to be the case, but something changed in the search engine. When I relist my items next, I plan to remove all pound symbols! There are also conspiracy theories about eBay blackout periods, or rotating visibility of sellers’ items to make the site run better… but I haven’t found any reliable proof, other than a few odd occurrences.

      1. I only ever use the app….but the cgc website is down today too…my obsessive compulsive desire to check the status of my invoices is killing me!

    1. Not down for me.. I’ve been able to load it every time I’ve hit it today to check my own auctions. Perhaps it’s just how your being routed..

        1. Ah yeah, down detector says it was down for awhile….. I was on mostly this morning and checked before seeing your post.

    2. Yep. And eBay does absolutely nothing to help sellers who lose out on last-minute bids. With the number of times eBay has gone down, I keep my starting prices relatively close to where I expect them to end; or just go Fixed Price only. People still have a last-minute bid-war mentality, especially with odd/unique collectibles. Your item could have 50 watchers on a $10 item that you expect to end up around $100 by the time it ends, and if they’re all waiting to bid in the last few minutes and the site is down… your item sells for $10. eBay just emphasizes that in the fine print on their website, they claim no responsibility for unpredictable website problems interfering with auctions.

  9. On a side note, hot topic and game stop suicide exclusive Funko POP!s are sold out and are doing very well on the aftermarket. I was lucky enough to get them for my wife.

      1. Sold out at Diamond Jay, yes they are sold out at Diamond Distributors. Not at local comic shops. You are going to need to learn what sold out means.

  10. I just spent an hour removing the # from my listings. lol My ebay page is fairly new, 68 positive 100%, what is the best way to sell, auction or fixed? I used fixed as Im wary of losing funds on low bid winners.

    1. I did the same thing. I can also give another tip, use good until cancel buy it now listings for all your buy it now 50 free monthly listings. This helps you build up an inventory on ebay where you can adjust prices as needed and the listings do not end. Also, its free to do.

      1. Thanks for the tips. I fortunately started off using the good til canceled option, so Im good in that regard.

  11. I managed to grab 2 copies of all the rebirth titles, reg and var.. My Batman reg sold for $20 US W/ shipping, literally within minutes of listing it, but the traffic on the others doesnt seem to be there for me. 🙁 I also found a Harrow County #1 in my LCS back issue bin for cover, and Green Lantern 20 x4. Ive managed to pay for all the books Ive added to my PC the past 3 weeks with money made from flipping. What a great extension of the hobby.

  12. Well when it comes to flipping, I start my bids low to get a bite. I am the type of person that likes to give the little man the chance to get the book that they wanted. Without paying to much for it. I hate paying ebay prices on books and I know a lot of us do, wich is one of the reasons why I do it. I have been fortunate enough to where some books go for 5-6× what I paid for. For example I had the green ranger variant for MMPR #0 and I paid under $20 for it. I sold it for 5× that price. Also for the Ms. Marvel #1, I sold that within 5mins of posting it for 10x the price that I paid for it. I don’t always loose my battles. LOL

    1. Yeah, I’m an undercutter as well. If everyone is selling a book mostly starting at $20.. I’ll jump in and sell at $18.. or start bidding at $9.99 (can’t go wrong with a $3 or $4 book and you make $10 from it)

  13. PINK INK SPOT IS EASILY REMOVED WITH SOFT WHITE ERASER AND A GENTLE TOUCH. With care the gloss is not affected… Same goes for other rebirth issues with smudging…. -Kevin
