Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 6/15/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think are going to heat up. These are our picks of the week for delivery 6/15/16
The Returning Favorites
Beauty #8 – The main, initial, story line is over and now they are doing a series of one and done stories that work well within the Beauty universe. Seriously one of the best new books in a long time.
Black Eyed Kids #3 – Great new horror from Joe Pruett. This urban legend is getting a back story and it gets weirder and creepier in each issue.
Poison Ivy Circle of Life and Death #4 – Gorgeous art and great story. Love seeing Ivy support her own series, well, with a little help from some of DC’s best female characters dropping by.
Carver Paris Story #4 – Great indie book focusing on a hard fighting spy (not sure spy is quite the right word)  and his trials and tribulations. Awesome visuals, great story that invokes emotion.

The Batman Ones
Batman #1 – sure it will be a huge print run, and yes it is the third #1, but this one will grow in value. Slow growth not quick flip.
Dark Knight Returns The Last Crusade #1 – the official prequel to the Dark Knight.
Potential Quick Flip of the Week
TMNT #59 IDW – the heat has already started on this one with copies selling out everywhere. Grab a couple and turn and burn on Wednesday. Stash one away in your collection for later. Sure to be reprinted and the “death” negated at sometime. Copies of this book are selling as soon as they are listed.
Norman #1 Cover B – Book has been selling well, but with more copies about to hit the stands, could see a dip in interest. However, it is the second cover that was supposed to come out last week.
The Small Press Gems
Life, Death, & Sorcery #1 – Chapter House Books new series about three sisters that run away from home and embark on an amazing adventure full of humor and magic.
Sun Bakery #2 – Great small press anthology. Think Brandon Graham (style art)  meets Shonen Jump.
Pick of the Week
Tales from the Darkside #1 – At one point Joe Hill, of Locke and Key fame, was going to revive the classic horror anthology TV series. That was squashed. However, Hill is bringing back the ideas and stories to this IDW book. Horror plus potential smallish print run plus top notch talent equals a win in my book. This is a long term spec and not a quick flip.
That’s it for this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on

  1. I made $20 from two copies of Norman.. I’m good, that paid for the 3 I bought + a little extra.. 🙂

  2. Black Eyed Kids is great. I got #1b and the #1 convention variant signed by Joe Pruett a couple of weeks ago, he was really nice and friendly.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. Hope you guys stay around and see where things lead. I think you’re going to be entertained.

      1. Thanks Joe. Thank you for dropping in. I have loved the series so far (including the Aftershock $1 issue which introduces a character that won’t be seen again until issue 4 or 5). Also wanted to give you a big thanks for the signing at Third Eye. The books came out beautiful and the people who received them loved them.

    1. I read it already. It is the classic” we don’t know you so we will fight you but then reconcile and work together at the end” formula.

  3. Tales From the Darkside #1 is completely sold out at Diamond and has already been given a 2nd print.
    😉
