Thanks to DrunkWooky for this.

Aspen announced the pre-order date and time for Harley Quinn, All-Star Batman, and Suicide Squad variants a few days ago.

It appears that these variants will also be Michael Turner variants! It looks like we could have another Batman #1 Turner variant situation going on in a week or so with Harley Quinn!
As a follow up: it’s unconfirmed but Aspen Comics has been posting the following Harley image from Michael Turner on social media.

      1. Oh come on, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because their taste doesn’t align with your own doesn’t mean you have to blatantly point it out in a rude fashion.

      2. Just different opinions. Put this on the shelf next to the Artgerm, Dell Otto, March, or Louw covers and this would sell last. Matter factly most people are buying Turner variants of different books after the Batman variant to make a buck on a dead artist not because their great appreciation for his art. People think since the Batman cover did well that every Turner variant will do well, I don’t think that will be the case. I didn’t say it’s the ugliest one I think the Buy me Toys variant takes that title. The art on the warp nine variant is pretty bad too, but it’s a Flash #123 homage cover so as being the only other cover that has old Harley on it, there’s a reason for it. Aspen Turner variant just looks like they slapped whatever picture of Harley Aspen comics could get by Turner on a book

  1. The classic Harley outfit is my favorite. I really love this cover. I wish they would go back to the classic, but I can understand why they don’t (for movie purposes).

  2. I love Michael Turner; I was lucky enough to meet him many times in his convention travels, even right up near the end. His past covers are some of my favorites. But I am conflicted about these new covers they are releasing. If they were cover price, I’m sure I’d own them all anyways, but I wonder how long Aspen will continue to release covers like this for a Premium? And with this cover in particular, I have this funny feeling that this was originally a sketch of Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, and they just changed it into Harley Quinn. And who’s to say we won’t see this pose again on a future cover when they modify it into a different character for yet another Premium cover? It still looks great, I just worry about the bigger picture. Michael Turner really pulls at my heart-strings. Crazy enough, when I started collecting & reading comics in 1994, I only picked up Marvel Books, then I started picking up his Witchblade shortly after it started, and that was my first Indy Comic ever… so I was actually reading & collecting Witchblade before I even picked up a DC title!

    1. I kind of have to agree with you. While Aspen is well within their rights to produce variants as they see fit, I wonder how long they can keep “going back to the well” for unreleased Turner work before they start recycling or reusing previously used artwork. If it is an unreleased Harley sketch, that is cool, however if it is a reused Danger Girl or Tomb Raider image, then it is not a real Turner Harley cover and more likely reworked art. I loved Turner’s art in the 90’s and 00’s I just hope his family gets the money for the new covers that are being released.

      1. The Second printing of their Batman #1 Turner variant shows what Aspencomics true intentions are with these Turner covers $$$. I would be pissed to drop big money on a limited store variant just to have them reprint it.

        1. I am sure $$$ is the motivation but they are a company so I understand the need for it. These are like printing bills. I did get a first print of Batman, and while the 2nd print will have a smaller print run and might end up being more desirable, I just don’t have it in me, or the wallet, to chase it.

      2. Still, going back for a reprint of that Batman #1 is/was better than Legacy deciding to expand the run on Artgerm’s variant AFTER they had already announced a 3000/1500 run in my opinion.
Turner’s Batman was lightning in a bottle. These subsequent covers may have longterm value, but the Batman #1’s are already coming down a bit which to me means that these aren’t going to be the same hit out of the gate. I’m ordering some for my PC, but that’s it.

  3. I’m glad I set my alarm for this one, the color/b&w combo packs sold out in about 30 minutes and the three packs sold out in about 15 minutes.
