Marvel did well this past weekend at SDCC. (Still think DC won the weekend.) There were many big Marvel announcements. One of which was the villains of Black Panther. Here is what that looks like:
First up is Erik Killmonger played by Michael B. Jordan. This was spec-ed on, but confirmed this weekend. Killmonger first appears in Jungle Action #6.
Also appearing in the film is Nakia, a member of Wakanda’s all-female honor guard. She will be played by Lupita Nyong’o. Nakia’s first appearance is in Black Panther (Vol. 3) #1 from 1998.
Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira will be playing Okoye, a friend of Nakia. She also first appears in Black Panther (Vol. 3) #1.
While Killmonger’s first appearance might be out of people’s reach, Black Panther (Vol. 3) #1 is a cheap pick up and can be found in back issue bins, for the time being.

Isn’t Jungle Action #8 the first appearance of Nakia (as Malice)…?
According to Marvel Wiki it is Black Panther 1 http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Nakia_(Earth-616) the one on Jungle Action 8 is a different character… The first Malice was one of Killmonger’s mutated allies during his vie for the throne of Wakanda. Her first appearance was in Jungle Action, Vol. 2, #8 (Jan 1974). She fought T’Challa, the Black Panther alongside Venomm, Lord Karnaj, Baron Macabre, and others. She was a Wakandan mutate with superhuman strength, speed, and agility and was eventually defeated along with the rest of the villains attempting the coup.
Ah, I see. I thought they retconned the Black Panther #1 story to be Nakia’s origin for the Jungle Action storyline with Killmonger and Malice. Thanks!
There’s a Dynamic Forces variant for Black Panther 1 that is really hard to find now, they’re probably sitting in dollar bins somewhere.
