AD After Death Picked up by Sony for Movie

After just one issue, the Jeff Lemire and Scott Snyder book released late last month AD: After Death, has been picked up by Sony for development into a feature film.ย
AD: After Death first appeared that Image Plus #5 as a preview. Another early appearance came out in the form of copies of a ashcan style magazine preview handed out at Baltimore Comic Con’s Diamond Retailer Summit and later made available for sale at the convention. AD: After Death is a magazine sized comic that switches between panels and single page art with text pieces.
The first issue of AD: After Death can still be found for sale online for less than cover price.

Sony has picked up the film rights to A.D.: After Death, a buzzy comic book miniseries from two of the industry’s leading creators, Scott Snyder and Jeff Lemire.
Josh Bratman is attached to produce the adaptation. Snyder and Lemire will serve as executive producers.
The comic, whose first issue just hit stores in November, is set in a future where a genetic cure for death has changed society and centers on a man frustrated by his never-ending life.
The A.D. deal reunites Lemire with Sony, which in 2015 picked up his sci-fi comic Descender. Bratman, whose credits include Priest and 2011โ€™s Fright Night remake, is also producing that adaptation as well.

  1. This was a great read. I understand why they picked the magazine format and size but man, I’m not a fan of the magazine size and format since I don’t buy that many, I never have bags, backer boards and no long boxes for these.. I think if I did get a Magazine box, it’d currently be about 98% empty.

    1. 100% agreed with format being annoying. Apparently DCBS also doesn’t have mag size bags and boards. My AD #1 came in a plastic bag used for wrapping trades. They also sent me a current size bag and board with no book in it. As for the story, I have no clue what is going on. I think this would have been best released as 180 pg OGN.

      1. Yeah, the first book doesn’t give some a full sense of what’s going on.. I liked it but it’s also the type I think you just wait for all of them to be released, then read all in one sitting as I’m sure books 2 and 3 will provide all you need to get a better grasp of the story.

    2. I use magazine bags and boards I buy individually from my LCS and store the mags in Ikea magazine holders on a bookshelf. I do collect a lot of Bronze Age horror mags though so this is a pretty familiar format for me.

          1. I’m working on my comic nerdism.. but I’m running out of space. Might be doing a large sale, like craigslist to get rid of it faster and in bulk, mostly all the marvel titles I have and no longer need (makes most easier since I redeem digitally so I have them forever as long as the interwebs is up and running).

  2. @agentpoyo – HA!! I am with you brother. Wife is already complaining about my over stocked comic boxes in the living room. I’m gonna need a bigger house.

      1. Keep it up.. she’s gonna get rid of the actual problem and kick you out, so you take all your preciousnesses with you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Just pulled the trigger on an ashcan one. It will be my first Snyder signed book. I want my Batman collection signed but I know that will never happen. LOL.
