Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 1/4/17

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/4/17:
Returning to the Shelves
Atoll #1 – Tim Daniel’s new great white shark book was really awesome. Some stores didn’t get them and shops will be getting the re-order copies this week. Don’t forget to order you Comics Heating Up Variants while they last.
Returning Favorites
Black Science #27 – Rick Remender is hot. This book is one of his best books on the market, not going to lie I love them all.
Cannibal #4 – If you are not reading this awesome take on a zombie book (it is not a zombie book) then you are missing out.
Moon Knight #10 – One of the very very few Marvel series I read. Damn good and written by Jeff Lemire.
Nailbiter #28 – Even though I was not a fan of the back-up story in issue #27, I will not give up on this awesome series.
Unfollow #15 – Still loving the oddball Vertigo story about a billionaire giving out his fortune to a lucky group of 140 people, um 138 people, um 100 people (they keep getting killed.)
Yakuza Demon Killer #3 – I cannot be the only one reading this incredible IDW horror/crime mash up, am I?
The One With the Walking and the Dead
The Walking Dead #162 – One of the most popular books on the market. Even recent back issues sell for $10…. Last issue of the Whisperer War. If you haven’t read the spoilers yet one here, go check them out.
The Why-the-hell-not
Deadpool the Duck #1 – we had this story up at NYCC faster than any of the major sites. Mix Deadpool and Howard the Duck and something odd will happen. Not going to pass up a Deadpool off shoot.
The Odd DC on the List
Fall and Rise of Captain Atom #1 – Not often will you see a DC miniseries on here. But I do love Captain Atom. He has also been missing from the DCU for a long time. This explains why.
Small Press Gem
Hunters of Salamanstra #0 – This one is iffy. It could be good it could fall flat. But that is speculation. New printed version of a very popular web series. Has “furry” type characters. Built in fan base, plus odd cultural fan base, could be good.
The Pick of the Week
Marry Me #1 – This one is a weird one. Very small print run. Online following. Female reader friendly. Could be this years Henchgirl. A pop star says yes to a guy holding up a “Will You Marry Me?” sign at a concert. What happens next? This web comic has been around for 10 years and is just now getting a print comic. Already sold out at most online retailers.

  1. I almost picked Marry Me as well but since it’s already a popular web comic, those can be hit or miss.
