Comics Picks of the Week for delivery 1/25/17

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. We pick the ones we feel have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 1/25/17:
Returning Favorites
Animosity The Rise One Shot – A completely new stand alone one shot in the popular Animosity world.
Divinity III Stalinverse #2 – By far the best Divinity yet. The reimagining of the Valiant Universe in a communist era.
Frostbite #5 – Joshua Williamson doing post apocalyptic sci-fi. Awesome read!
Harrow County #20 – Cullen Bunn’s amazing horror series. Some Love it, Some hate it, but it is a great read and has been optioned.
Hellboy Winter Special 2017 One Shot – Mike Mignola’s classic character in a new one shot. Horror and adventure at it’s best.
Hillbilly #5 – Eric Powell is a modern story telling master, art and story are fun and weird. Totally worth the pick up
Letter 44 #29 – Charles Soule’s first comic series that really brought him to the forefront. As the series keeps going it has changed into an amazing adventure, and read.
Reborn #4 – A Mark Millar book so good our own Agent Poyo even reads, and he does not read Millar!
New #1
The Dregs #1 – Back Mask’s new #1. Could be interesting if they can keep their shipping schedule…. Kind of Soilent Green in the description.

A gentrified city. Its homeless population restricted to six square blocks called The Dregs. When people start disappearing, a drug-addled homeless man obsessed with detective fiction becomes addicted to solving the mystery. Equal parts Raymond Chandler and Don Quixote set in a thriving metropolis that literally cannibalizes the homeless, The Dregs is the first homeless meta noir ever made.

Small Press Gem
Loose Ends #1– Putting politics aside, and trust me I am sure we are all burned out on it by now, Loose Ends looks like a fantastic book. Jason Latour described it to me as a “younger Southern Bastards” I do like Southern Bastards.
Pick of the Week
Slayer Repentless #1 – Already selling for above cover price on eBay, this one is a pretty good bet. Loyal band following, awesome variant by Eric Powell, this one could be selling well for a long time.
One for the Book Shelf
Neil Gaiman Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire HC – Name big long enough for you? Awesome looking Gothic Horror graphic novel by Gaiman.

A celebrated send-up of gothic literature, beautifully adapted into a dark, brooding, and oddly comical graphic novel. Somewhere in the night, a raven caws, an author’s pen scratches, and thunder claps. The author wants to write nonfiction: stories about frail women in white nightgowns, mysterious bumps in the night, and the undead rising to collect old debts. But he keeps getting interrupted by the everyday annoyances of talking ravens, duels to the death, and his sinister butler.

  1. Haha on the Reborn. That’s the funny thing about Millar.. he’s always a good read, I’m just not a fan of his past tactics but he’s slowly redeeming himself, sort of.. we’ll just have to see.

  2. And it’s odd that TFAW has so many copies and Midtown so much less. TFAW never orders more than Midtown.
Tfaw has 199 copies of cover A and 197 copies of cover B. Midtown has 32 copies of A and 10 copies of B.

  3. t4 has a strong connection to dark horse. theslayer book witht he powll cover will be a wensday winner . plus the band has been around for over 25 yers . blind adam out

  4. I preordered the Repentless Powell variant from my LCS after it was previewed here on CHU. Thanks for another heads up call, Tony.

  5. When I saw the Animosity cover I thought of that movie “Black Sheep”. Didn’t see Spiderman Deadpool #1mu on here, but that is one I think is worth picking up.
