Star Wars: The Last Jedi…. What do you think about that? There has been a lot of buzz on Star Wars #49 thanks to a Bleeding Cool article (not going to bother to link as they never link to me as pointed out by Evil_Dr_Porkchop) as it has the same title. Sure it has nothing to do with the movie, other than Luke being in both.

  1. Just wanna vent a little before I write my books for this week. I am starting to hate my LCS. Ever since the owner made the new rules, it has been harder and harder for me to get HOT books. And when I tell him if he can order it for me or hold it for me he replies with ” if you would of put it on ur previews pull, this wouldn’t had happened.” WTF I am not made out of $ to buy every book that comes out. Like when God Country was hot, I called him to see if he had any he said ” no, but if you would of put it on ur previews pull, I would have one for you.” Then I went on Sunday to get my books and there they are 3 copies of God country #1 priced at $15 WTF. So been looking around for a new LCS to move my books and my wife’s AF and stutues. F*$#en frustrating only been doing business with him for a year and its getting to be to much BS.

    1. I can only say, order from Midtown. Pre-orders from previews can get up to 35% off and some at 50% off (I pre-ordered God Country from them for $2 as it was one of their few at 50% off). Pick the monthly shipping option so you save on shipping (and even then, with the discounts you really aren’t losing much on shipping costs).
      After my primary local shop closed up this past fall (he was the only one that did discounts on pull lists), I started doing most if not all my buys from Midtown now just for the discounts.. I only go for the variants and or Indie book’s at my local shops that I don’t want to commit to until I skim nowadays.

      1. Yeah I think that’s what I am going to do. Is find me an online retailer and get a good discount. 35% off is good on pre-orders specially since that’s how my LCS now does it. Thanks for the tip Poyo.

        1. I’d say TFAW is another big retailer that will give you discounts on pre-orders but they charge for bags and boards along with them not always getting some of the variants you might want.

      2. Sadly the pull list discount seems to be dying. My shop will still give anyone 10% as long as they add the order to their pull list. The other closest shop to me doesn’t offer one and they seem to be harder and harder to find. I’ve added so many books just because of that discount.

  2. Was just sent a link to this piece by a reader. Bleeding Cool always links to stories that are sourced from other websites. I have never, knowingly, run a story sourced from this or any other website without saying that’s where it came from. In the cases he mentioned, it came from us both having access to the same information. Now, I don’t care if you link to BC or not, but I’d rather you didn’t traduce my reputation in this regard.

    1. I am going to reply to this comment Rich, as I actually missed it when reading the Wednesday Open Forum earlier. (Though I only got the notification in my email of this post at 12.28 PM UK time, but on here it says you posted at 12.53 AM this morning, so maybe it wasn’t actually there when I made my post? Who knows.) I was just reporting what Trey said over at CBSI, I thought it relevant to what Tony said in his post. Now I don’t know Tony personally, but he has always come across as a straight up guy here and in a few private emails we have sent to each other. Same with Trey, only know him through CBSI, seems like a cool guy. I don’t know you at all, I have only visited BC a couple of times and made a couple of comments. But unfortunately you do have a certain “reputation”, for want of a better word, of stealing stuff from other people’s sites and then not crediting them with the original discovery or whatever. Now I have no way of knowing if this is true or not, but I tend to believe the people I have regular interactions with as long as they have never been outed as a colossal tool. Make of that what you will.

    2. So it’s a total coincidence that you have, no less than half a dozen times (that I’ve noticed) , posted identical information as this site within a few hours of it going up here?
      You’re a much bigger site, and I’m sure that running BC is your full time job yet you can’t get news up faster than CHU which is run part time??

      1. Well its not a coincidence. It’s that we’re both drawing from the same well. But if you mean, are we copying things posted here without credit or link, then that is NOT true.

    3. Then give me a link and I’ll confront Tony personally. You and Tony are wrong. I cover lots of stories of all types, a wider brief than this site, I am sure that there are stories that run here before BC, and stories that ran after, but I am doing original research and if and when I run a story that has been sourced from another site, I do give credit and link. If there’s a reputation, it’s that I publish A LOT, but I am not stealing. Still, if you want to stand over my shoulder and watch me work any time, I’m happy to facilitate that. Maybe put an end to this fake news?

    -Star Wars 27: no Stegman or action figure coming to ether of my LCS, Poyo grab me one of each of you see em!
    -Thanos 3 Broderick variant: grabbed a full set of the In-Hyuk Lee Infinity variants the other day for $50.00. Great price. Less than $10 each? I’m glad they’re finally doing something with Thane. He’s pretty badass and just disturbed and angsty enough to have staying power. He’s like the cosmic, inhuman, male X-23!

    1. Oh, also grabbed 2 $2.00 copies of Star Wars (1977) 49 “The Last Jedi” at my LCS today. I think the eBay surge is silly, but I’m part of it. Keeping one and threw one up on eBay for a silly price.

    2. I’ll grab one but my LCS last week didn’t get the Dr. Aphra 40th either.. I actually pre-ordered from Midtown. But I’ll grab you one if my shops do get them.

      1. Thanks! My LCS owner is awesome. Anything they DO actually get is free reign for cover price. I’ve received 1:50s, 1:100s for cover. But they get screwed on some covers from week to week.

        1. My main shop now is all cover price but yeah, some of the more rare variants they’ll throw in long time pull lists, if they get them. They don’t get all the covers either and most variants after #1 they don’t usually get when those have the weird ordering type of situation to receive such variants.

      2. Most of the shop’s I have been to have had only one or two copies of the 40th anniversary variants. It makes me think they might actually be lower printed than some of the others. That is what convinced me to put together a complete set, I am still debating on doing one complete set or two. I am just going to pre-order them from now on so I don’t have to worry about finding them.

        1. I’ve decided to go with two full sets, I have a good feeling about this ? I order everything online anyway, but have made sure that I’ve pre ordered well in advance.

  4. Almost had a house this week but just narrowly missed out on it. They took a lower offer because someone opted to skip a home inspection. What idiots!
    Been super busy house hunting and wedding venue hunting. Managed to score a few Lego Batman blind bags while shopping for a present for my niece. I got joker, red Hood and catman but he looks like wolverine Batman. Lol

      1. Got mine at toys r us. $4.99 each (monopoly money).
        I got the entire first Simpsons set and I’m pretty sure they were only $3.99. I got so good at feeling up those little fun bags (hehehehe) I only got four doubles and was able to trade two of them.

        1. I made out on the Simpsons ones. Was selling the doubles for good money. Google Lego blind bag bump codes to help you identify the figures inside.

    1. Had a plumber put a camera down the 75 year old clay sewer pipes in our soon to be new home today. Glad to say that my new house came back with a squeaky clean colonoscopy! Never skip the home inspection!

      1. Since this is Comicsheatingup and home improvement (lol) we had friends that bought a house in the woods without inspection. Turns out the walls were filled with mold. The house had to be gutted. Cost them more to rehab the house than they bought it for. Was a big lawsuit involved.

        1. Hmm, wonderful, yessss. Lol kidding, best thing ever to happen to me when my daughter was born. Was lucky that she started sleeping through from 4 weeks, never had colic, no teething problems (except she did sometimes suddenly throw up, like proper puke not baby stuff, then a few days later we discovered a new tooth), was never a whingey baby. As I say lucky, very lucky

          1. Lol. We waited 3 years between our two. Now that my youngest is three we are sitting here going “another one?” And we both are thinking no we are good.

  5. Took a little road trip last Saturday and visited some comic shops I’d hadn’t been to in over a year or more. Digging through the $1.00 boxes I came home with Amazing Spiderman #4 (Silk), The Theatre #1 (Artgerm cover), 6 different 1970s DC Whitman Variants in VF, SpiderFemme #1(an early indy with an Adam Hughes cover), Avengers Arena #14, and a handful of Silver Age Doom Patrols and DC war comics.
    This week getting Hillbilly, Batman 66/Wonder Woman 77 Alex Ross cover, Kamandi Challange.

      1. Yeah. To me it’s not the actual 1st appearance but #4 definitely holds the more value. It (#4) will definitely be the one to have though long term.

        1. We all know why it holds value; much lower print run and the variants. Same as Batman #655 and Damian Wayne, that’s a cameo, but oh wait it has the variant so people happy to accept that is 1st appearance. I said something similar on CBSI Google + the other night. Time to use my Jedi mind powers to change people’s minds!

          1. Yup. What was the print run on ASM #1 again? 700k or so.. yeah, one of my shops was trying to dump those before closing at 75% off and still couldn’t get rid of them.. I already had enough of them. I acknowledge first appearance in it but I’ll go with the one that makes me more money in #4 😉

      2. An interesting side note…I mentioned the comic Spider-Femme #1, which is your basic b/w 90s parody comic, nothing great other than early Hughes art on the cover. But reading over it, there is an origin story by Fred Hembeck, and the title character gets her powers when the radioactive spider bites Peter Parker then jumps onto her and bites her too…plus the Spider tingle makes her more “frisky”. Sound familar?
        Coincidence that I also picked up the ASM #4 the same day at another store.

  6. Last week, curse words one per store went to the guy ahead of me for $25. I thought they would have asked for more.

    1. I was offered one for $35 and bulked at it. I turned around two days later and picked one up for $3.99… The same shop that offered the Curse Words to me for $35 was royally mad that I ended up picking up the WWE one per store and Batman Vol.1 I am Gotham TPB one per store Jim Lee Sketch off his shelves for cover price. I didn’t look for them when I was in the store on Wednesday and went back on Thursday and bought them. He accused me of “scoping his store out” and “waiting for him to be off to sneak them”. I was a little offended.

      1. We could all probably do a an entire column of just crazy comic shop guys. We have one guy around here that will look up back issue prices online at the register and try to sell you it at the”new” price! He has little handwritten signs all over saying he reserves the right to charge current market price for comics, regardless of what they are priced at in the bins.
        IRS shut him down for awhile but he reopened again. And amazingly people still shop there (I’m not one!).

      2. So because he was too lazy/incompetent to know what comics he is putting out on his shelves you get accused of being underhand? Guy deserves all he gets in my opinion.

      3. I’m gonna start calling him to give him a heads up each week.. and I bet Tony will still walk in there, walk out with all the gems and the guy will be all mad about it. 😉

  7. The Star Wars 49 was broken by CBSI Google + feed first, then the dicks from Thieving Cool stole with no credit, according to Trey at CBSI (who has no reason to tell an untruth!) I formally acknowledge he used the Thieving Cool in his post this morning lol. So good for you not including the link Tony. Today’s comics will shortly be revealed… ?

      1. Again, yes you did. It was Drew Lejuan’s spec which was posted in the group first, or did you get this from a Dennis J Barger again who got it from a source at a Wal-Mart in Ark?
        I could care less, just not fair to Drew. And this isn’t the first time, Tony and CHU have been on the other side of BC “copying” of information as well.

    I had somehow missed Outcast #21 & #22 so ordered those.
    Love is Love turned up on FP website back on 8th January, so I ordered another copy, eventually turned up today and yet again a stickered first print! On the Bay it goes lol
    Managed to order 5 copies of Star Wars #4 for cover from an online store, also got a 1:25 variant and some #5, #6 and #9.
    Also picked up a couple of Strange Tales #179 in 6.0 after news Peter Dinklage was shown coming out of hairdressers with dyed red hair and mentioned on CBSI! Didn’t pay too much, so worth a shot if he is playing Pip the Troll in Avengers Infinity War. There was a bundled #178 & #179 as well, so got a 1st Magus if he is in it too.

  9. Talking of Star Wars, I wondered what peoples’ thoughts are on who Rey’s parents are?
    Apart from the obvious I have two:
    She is Han and Leia’s daughter! “What?!” I hear you ask, “how could that possibly be, surely they would know it was her when they met her?” Well, what if they had twins, like Anakin and Padme, as we know twins are a genetic disposition in families, so she could be Ben Solo’s twin. Still doesn’t answer the question why Han and Leia didn’t recognise her. Luke used his Jedi powers on everyone to make them forget her!! Why? He had a vision of Ben going to the dark side, so wanted to keep Rey as far away from him and everyone else as possible, so that she could emerge as a potential Jedi at a future date to counteract the Sith resurgence. Putting her in the most god awful out of the way crap hole in the galaxy would achieve this. This is why I think Han was particularly drawn to her, part of him knew she was his daughter. And that hug between Leia and Rey after the destruction of Starkiller Base, they had never met, didn’t know each other, so why the hug? (I just read something somewhere else about this theroy, but I thought this when the film first came out so there!)
    Other theory is she is Wedge Antilles daughter. On more shaky ground here, it is purely based on the fact that she has the rebel pilot helmet on when she is sitting outside her walker on Jakku and there is a little rebel pilot knitted doll. I was going to look at the blu rey (excuse the pun!) to see what was written on the helmet and then again at Star Wars to see if I could see Wedge’s helmet, but they’re at my mum’s so can’t right now. I did once tweet about this, but closed my Twitter early last year so can’t actually show the tweet, but I am an honest guy!
    Anyway, my tuppence worth, sorry it took up so much space and if this was discussed in previous posts!

    1. If you read Shattered Empire, what appear to be Poe Dameron’s parents retire to a sleepy planet after the battle of Endor. They take with them a sapling from the force-sensitive tree that grew in Coruscant’s Jedi temple. In the last issue it is revealed that they have children who grow up in the shadow of that tree.
      Poe’s sister? I think it’s a strong possibility.

    1. They don’t usually post the actual ratio’s but you can usually tell by their prices what type of ratio the variants are.

          1. It makes no sense to me. They take the time to write on the front cover that the comic is not for kids. So max title or no max title…..quit censoring it. It’s really annoying. I think the thing that bothers me so much is that it takes me out of the story.

  15. Okay so I have been meaning to ask the group about subscription boxes. This past week or so Anthony has opened his Loot Crate and Star Wars boxes, so I thought it was fitting to ask the question of what boxes you all thought had the best bang for the buck (from a collectors stand point of view). I’m super into comics, gaming, and horror and am really interested in doing one of these. I have looked up some some other reviews and some people are super critical on whether or not they get a Funko product. I could care less about Funko but every once and a while I don’t mind them. So what say you?

    1. Look into Bam Box. Has a ton of cool stuff, signed movie stuff, had an awesome horror box months back with Signed Jason Masks (which I missed )
      There are several themed Horror boxes. I love horror too but haven’t jumped in on any yet.

They did not seem to make subscriptions options as easy as others (just gave me the monthly subscription automatic renewal, so no six month or year option). I’ll give it a month or two and see if I like it. Once again, thanks.

    2. I also admit I have a subscription box problem. But I get them and they are for CHU purposes only. I don’t enjoy them. Lol. (I do enjoy them)

    3. In my personal opinion the only one that really seems to consistently deliver is the Funco Smuggler’s bounty box. But since you don’t care about pops that does you no good. The rest of the boxes are really hit and miss month to month. Some months they’re worth every penny you paid. Other months it’s nothing but junk that you could care less about. Smuggler’s is the only box I still pay for. I’ve personally dropped everything else.

  17. I had a fairly light week, thank god. I’ve found a nice 9.6 ASM 300 that I have my eyes on, and need to save some cash to make the purchase. It’s graded and the guy wants about $470 US. I think I could talk him down a bit if I bring cash to his store. Any opinions on that price for that book? My pick ups this week were:

    I really wanted to collect a set of the anniversary variants and started out good. When #1 came out, one shop I visit had like 50 copies. I assumed they were abundant and missed the Poe Dameron 10, and couldn’t find Star Wars 27 today. I managed to get a copy of SW27 online for a fair price, but those poe Dameron 10 variants are steep. And I only found one on eBay. These are going to be tough to collect all 48. Jesus Murphy.

    1. On that ASM 300, that’s what they are going for cuz I am as well saving my $ to buy one from a local shop for $475.

      1. I am by no means an expert on these matter, but I imagine as this comic gets to 40 and 50 years old it will just keep gaining value. If that’s the prevailing price, then that’ the price, you just have to pay it now and wait for the probable increases in the future. Assuming you ever get rid of it.

    Received back from CBCS SS Strangers in Paradise 1 9.0 1st print and SS Stan Sakai Star Wars 1 9.8 yesterday. Also have a copy of Wonder Woman 205 coming that I bought sight unseen but was listed as NM+ raw for cheap. Sweet cover. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    1. Not really. We have people in common who hang out on both sites and Mel V. appears on their podcast but we are not the same entity.

  20. I purchased a raw copy of NYX #3 for…gulp…$350, it looks like it’s in 9.8 condition. Is it worth me sending it in to be graded?

      1. I’ve never sent anything in to have graded before. How much is it usually, how long does it take? Is it pretty easy to have done?

        1. Who do you want to grade it CGC or CBCS? Fast passed cbcs could have it back in 30 days for $28 plus shipping. Not sure in CGC turn around time. Cbcs just go to the website and sign up and click submit books. Not sure on CGC. I don’t know if you have to have a membership any more. But if they have a con near you that CGC or cbcs will be at you can submit it there.

  21. So which is better, CGC or CBCS?
    If I were to sell a 9.8 from CGC on eBay or a 9.8 graded by CBCS on eBay, which one sells better or for more?

    1. Cbcs tends to grade stricter. CGC is looser. You will get the most accurate from cbcs. Tough to say. As a collector I use cbcs. CGC sells for more currently but on a book like this I am not sure of the price difference. CGC would more likely met you a 9.8 if there are flaws (on a good day)
