Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 2/15/17

Each Week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we feel have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for 2/15/17:

Returning Favorites
Spread #19– Man I love the Spread. Seriously a great read with fantastic art. This needs to be picked up. Can’t wait for Kyle Strahm to return to interior art though.
Animosity #5– Aftershocks surprise hit keeps going. Great read, great art, really interesting concept.
Black Eyed Kids #11 – Like Oprah’s favorite things, I like to spotlight books in this section that I really like here. This book is the total package of good story, good art, great covers by Francavilla, low print runs, and an easily adaptable story…. Come on Hollywood. Joe Pruett needs you to call him (for my sake at least)
Manifest Destiny #26– Historical fiction with a hint of horror. Damn good book. Another one that just needs to be adapted.
Savage #4– Valiant’s surprise book (for me). Sad to see the first series end, but I know it will not be long before it returns.
New Number One
Forever War #1– Titan Comics is releasing the classic Sci Fi story that hasn’t been in print since 1990. I copies are worn out from reading a bunch of times. This is one of the books that everyone needs to read. Really is a classic.
The One With The Walking and the Dead
The Walking Dead #164The Walking Dead #164- Whisper War just ended and the war with the Saviors is ramping up. Walking Dead is a pop culture phenom that will turn new books into $10 wall books for a long time.
The Long Term Hold
Super Sons #1– Fans have picked up on and have fallen in love with both Superman and Batman’s kids. They have become really fascinating characters. Not just mini versions of the characters like in the past. While this will have a big print run it will be a growth book for a long time.
The Cheap Ones
Marvel is releasing a couple more $1 Wolverine books. True Believers Wolverine X-23 will be a great grab with chance of growth. True Believers Wolverine Enemy of the State is more of a reader.
Small Press Gem
Rift #2– The first issue had great art and good story. Very good read over all. Small print run and could easily translate into other media. Also, supposed to be my son Joe’s first appearance in comics.
The Pick of the Week
God Country #2– One of the hottest launches recently. Second issues typocally have a drop off in print runs and there has been a demand for the series. Good read and art as well.
God Country #1 Second Print– New cover art and a smaller print run (most likely) on one of the hottest new series launches in a while. You know, I still hear retailers say they do not order reprints and they just wait for the trades to be released….

  1. Awesome choices! I have the first few Black Eyes Kids, and quit after issue 2 or 3. Now that I know it’s still going strong I will hunt down the rest of the issues.
I’m still reading Manifest Destiny and have a bunch of the #1 variants slabbed. Not only is this series a great read, but it’s also Skybound and it shares a SDCC connecting cover with The Walking Dead. This book. Reds to blow up!

    1. Black Eyed Kids is a great read month after month. It is creepy, and really different than most other books on the market. I can’t say enough good things about it.

    1. Now I just hope they come through as they said. Remind me later today to tell the full story behind the letter and picture. The guys on the book went out of their way if they make it happen.
