Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 3/22/17

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our comic picks of the week for delivery 3/22/17:
Not a huge week for spec, but a lot of returning favorites. Some of the more interesting Venom variants hit the stands. This week has more of a “fifth week” feel to it.
Returning Favorites
Black Hammer #7 – Jeff Lemire’s love letter to classic heroes. Compelling story.
Beauty #13 – Such a quirky but interesting read. If you haven’t checked out Beauty, look for cheap copies of 1-6. Good story and art.
Curse Words #3– A fun and interesting read. I know it is not for everyone, but Ryan Browne art has been fun and a very fun upbeat read by Charles Soule.
Descender #20 – Jeff Lemire again. Come on more news from Sony. A great read each month and usually on the top of my stack. Gorgeous art as well.
Few #3 – very interesting book so far. Issues #1 and #2 have sold out and gone back for reprints. $4.99 cover price can turn off some readers though.
Letter 44 #31 – Am I the only one still reading this. Again, Charles Soule is an excellent writer, and as this book winds towards it’s conclusion, I am left to wonder will we hear more news on the adaptation….
Reborn #5 – Mark Millar’s incredible sci-fi fantasy story chugs on. It has been a while since we have seen an issue. You know this is going to get the Millar movie treatment.
New Image #1
Underwinter #1 – Will have a small print run, even from Image, however, the muddy, painted art may chase away possible readers. B cover by Jeff Lemire, though.
The Small Press Pick of the Week
Heathen #2 – First issue had a tiny print run and was a secondary market hit off the bat. However, prices have dropped. Still a great read and #2 will probably follow the second issue order drop off. With a tiny small press week this shines above all others.
The Pick of the Week
Elektra #2 1:25 Adi Granov Variant – Any book you can get at a decent price and flip for good money will always win. Look for under cutters and if you are going to sell, list early.
If you missed it, here is this week’s New Comics Spec Review video.

That is it for me this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.
