Joss Whedon to head-up Batgirl Movie

News came out yesterday that Avengers series alum Joss Whedon could be doing a Batgirl movie. Follow up shows which books he could be drawing from.
Hollywood Reporter had the story yesterday.

Batgirl could be getting the big-screen treatment via Joss Whedon.
Whedon is in negotiations to write, direct and produce a Batgirl stand-alone movie for Warner Bros., adding another heroine to the studio’s DC cinematic universe.
Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich will oversee the project, along with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns.

Entertainment Weekly had this to say about the source for the potential movie:

Sources tell EW that this version will be Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon, and the movie will use the DC Comics “New 52” version of the character as a starting point.

Batgirl #1 New 52 has sold for up to $30 on eBay. There are second print variants and third print variants as well. Also of interest seems to be Batgirl #35 New 52, the beginning of the Batgirl of Burnside storyline.

  1. Hopefully it ends in a “Killing Joke” scenario setting her up to become Oracle.Instead of silly-sh, a darker tone would be nice.

  2. I can’t see too many issues of Detective 359 (first Barbara Gordon) skyrocketing because they are already pricey and have been for a while now..Lower grades are already at roughly $200 with higher grades at $1000 plus. Looks like there has been some movement but I don’t see this book doubling or tripling in price anytime soon. Movie or not. Books to look out for that “may” have some potential if they can be found cheap enough are the TRU and DC millennium edition of Detective #359.

  3. I had a bunch of doubles of Batgirl New 52 comics I sold on Ebay for what I thought was a pretty good price, but I’m new to selling comics so I’m not sure (this was actually the first thing I ever sold on Ebay). I sold a Batgirl #1 (third print) and #0, #2, #3 (all first prints) for $45. I have a 2nd printing of #1 and a few other doubles, but I figured I’d hang on to them for if this movie every comes out.
