Picks of the Week One Year Ago Today!

Yearly Review – 4/13/16
Hey CHU crew!! Back again with another check in on specs from ONE YEAR AGO TODAY!
Thanks for all the great feedback from last week’s first posting. It definitely motivates me to keep these coming. And from last week’s post I unexpectedly became a Grizzly Shark fan. (editors note: told ya it was a great book -Anthony)
This week I wanted to lay out what specs from a year ago I choose to post each week. I try to keep AMP’s (Anthony, Mel, Poyo) personal opinions out. If they are a fan of an ongoing series it doesn’t mean they are advising anyone to buy it for potential value increase. They are just recommending something with bad ass art they are into or just a good read that they like. And in this country, we don’t judge people on their opinions…. wait……here at CHU we don’t judge people on their opinions……wait…here at CHU we will do our very best to not judge people too harshly on their opinions. So basically, I try to only include AMP specs where they show signs of recommending the issue due to a possible value increase and/or quick flip potential. Also keep in mind that though the value may not be up a year later, chances are it could have been flipped quickly for a profit and/or still has a chance to increase down the road.
That being said, let’s get to it!
WINNERS

Moon Knight #1 – Poyo & Anthony Pick
Original Value: $5  Current Value: $10
Netflix series coming soon. Multiple printings. Though I can’t get Mr. Robot out of my head when I watch the trailer I am still looking forward to it. Nice Pick!

Moon Knight Vol 8 #1 Cover D Incentive Marco Rudy Variant Cover – Mel Pick
Original Value: $15  Current Value: $25
Solid pick that’s held value for a while and again a popular series in general.

House of Penance #1 – Poyo & Anthony Pick
Original Value: $4  Current Value: $5 – 6
Quite a bit of buying and selling activity still on this one. Most on line sellers sold out. (Slim win but a win)

LUKE WARM PICKS

All-New All-Different Avengers #8 Cover A Regular Alex Ross Cover – Mel Pick
Original Value: $3.99  Current Value: Still available at cover price
Doesn’t matter. This is a cool cover. Wish there was a virgin variant.

Mockingbird #2 Nen Chang Incentive variant – Mel Pick
Original Value: $15  Current Value: $15
I remember keeping an eye on this one when it came out and a quick flip would have been the way to go.

Monstress #5 – Poyo & Anthony Pick
Original Value: $4  Current Value: $4
Hang onto this one for obvious reasons.
MISSES

Gwenpool #1 Cover G Incentive Francisco Herrera Variant Cover – Mel Pick
Original Value: $30  Current Value: $15
Could have been a quick flip winner since the Gwenpool craze has died down. But anything can happen with this character in the MU future.

Gwenpool #1 Cover H Incentive Stacey Lee Variant Cover – Mel Pick
Original Value: $60  Current Value: $25
Ditto!
Missed Opportunity

Harley Quinn and Her Gang of Harleys #1 Partial Blank Variant
Original Value: $3.99  Current Value: $7-$10

  1. Excellent. Moon Knight has such a great story, I think it will do well when it hits the screen. Well done!

  2. I think I paid 35$ for the moon knight Marco Rudy variant the day it came out. Had is slabbed at 9.8 and sold it for 150$ right away. Glad I didn’t hold out on that one. Keep these coming. Interesting article for sure.

  3. AMP Lol I like that …Damn I remember that Mockingbird #2 Nen Chang,,,I snagged like 4 sold for like 60 ..was very hot for a while,I really liked that cover ..surprised its down to 15 .. That Moon Knight is a weird one …fantastic cover ..it drops then comes back up..drops again ..Apr 4 one sold for 39.99 ..so it might be on the upswing again .. Great work on the article buddy, keep em coming

  4. This is a fabulous article and idea. I love going back and reliving all the past wins and loses. (Hopefully more of the former…)

  5. Great article, but it makes me realize that I haven’t finished reading House of Penance, I think I’m only up to issue #3.

  6. Great column to look back at the hits and misses..it’s funny because I snagged a few copies of that Harley partial blank cover variant thinking it might be something..looks like it has a bit of value with it

  7. Dude nice article. I am always curious to know if I did the right decision on some sales. Keep up the good work man.
