Poyo's Picks for May 24th, 2017

On this day, the 24th of May that is, 12 years ago, I got hitched. So is that gonna stop me from heading to the comic book story? Heck no..
DC/Vertigo Pick
Wonder Woman #23 (DC) Jenny Frison Variant Cover B – Just a great cover. Don’t expect this to heat up or anything, it’s just one for the personal collection if you like Frison’s artwork. Also, there is just nothing else that stands out in the DC world this week.

Marvel Pick
Black Panther #14 (Marvel) Andrew Robinson Variant – For the Black Panther fans, just a great cover. I’m a sucker for Black Panther in the trees… I don’t expect this one to heat up but I do expect it to be a little harder to find. Don’t pay your local shop retail prices though, you can likely wait a few days or weeks, find this one on eBay for cheap unless your local shop doesn’t rape your wallet for variants.

And just to throw it out there, so many Venom covers.. avoid.. avoid them all. Wait until your local shop has a 50% off or better sale to pick these up.
Small Publisher Pick
Dying and the Dead #4 (Image) – It’s back! Oh my freaking goodness, it’s back. It’s a year late but it’s back. What I think is Hickman’s best effing read to date.. is BACK! Let’s just hope there are no more delays.. YOU HEAR ME HICKMAN? NO MORE DELAYS ON THIS ONE OR I’M GONNA TOILET PAPER YOUR HOUSE WITH SHREDDED EAST OF WEST BOOKS…. This is not a spec pick but it’s a read pick.
Don’t forget to grab a copy of the Spawn cover of Seven to Eternity #6.. it’s already sold out online at most retailers.
Also, Redneck #2 hits stands as well. It’s a honorable mention.
I would also like to throw out there another Small Publisher read I think everyone should be reading. That’s X-O Manowar Vol. 4. Matt Kindt does not let down, this has been a fantastic new story arc for Aric of Dacia and the man of armor. If you like Sci-Fi mixed with some middle ages type battles, this is for you. X-O Manowar #3 hits stands this week.
Indie Pick
Normals #1 (AfterShock) Elizabeth Torque Variant – I’ve been loving Torque’s artwork. Check out this new AfterShock title and I’m sure Torque’s cover will be a hard to find since the print run on these will not be that big.

That’s all I got this week.. comments welcome, even hater comments. It’s all good..

      1. I hope so as well. Seems Hickman kind of fell off the radar though.. the only book that’s been hitting the shelves has been East of West and Black Monday Murders, so maybe whatever it was is over and we start seeing more consistent books from him.

    1. I was really busy at work yesterday and was off of the internet most of the day. When I got to my LCS and he told me I had an issue of the Dying and the Dead I thought I had stepped into a time machine. I hope the long break doesn’t kill the book. Hopefully people are willingly to jump back in.
