What up CHUper Villains!?! Shawn B. back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today.
It happens every year, the summer doldrums, the before con season where things do not pop off like the rest of the year. Where news coming out of the big cons set books off.

Still speccing this as a winner even though it’s only a couple bucks. Most collector’s get these below the original value.

Wow! I have the Joe Quesada color variant. I got it for my little one cuz he love’s BB8. I paid under $50. That’s the biggest winner for me so far. Keep up the good work dude!
Another great list. I really wanted that Quesada cover, but I never got it.
Again these are all losers except the JQ variant. You have to be overly optimistic to get anything over cover price for those items, many will sell for less (or far less). The fact is there is no demand for those books mentioned. I could have easily done an ALL fail post and it would be (more) correct IMO.
Flash #1 has to be a winner. Best launch of any Flash book ever, also a first appearance of a super speedster. All Flash TV series has to do is hint Godspeed and book will triple over night.
Wow you sound bitter and a little out of touch with basic economics. People who know what they are doing got those books for 1.50-2$ pre-sale. When 2$ becomes 6$, that is what we call 3x your money. 3x your money is a good return. That Flash #1 book alone made me a few hundred last year. I sold it at cons and on ebay for 15-20$ each for months at it’s peak. I also sold those Wonder Woman covers for 10$ each. They key for most of these books is to pre-order and to sell when they are hot. Other books like those Force Awaken books are a slow burn and I will keep buying them up for a 1$ or less every time I see them since they are the first appearances of about 4 characters.
Wonder Woman Frank Cho variants I had signed at Baltimore and was selling for $25 no problem last year. Flash introduced one of the most interesting new villains coming out of Rebirth and one that looks to be a lasting one. I had a bunch signed by Joshua Williamson and again was selling for $25 no problem. Dakoit, as someone who used to do his own weekly picks, I think you know some weeks are better than others, some books spike and then dip, and the period leading up to con season is a slower period. But everyone does their own thing and does them differently. As Jay said, I do not pay anything near full price on comics, and I have been selling on eBay successfully for 20 years, yahoo auctions a long time ago too. I have done very well with new comic spec and selling new comics, the Wednesday warriors stuff if you will.
Dakoit, Please feel free to share your weekly pick ups or spec picks anytime you feel, opinions are always welcome, but realize there is money to be made in small gains over multiple sales just as well as big gains of single sales. A profit is a profit.
