  1. Great art. Great cover. Shit deal. I absolutely hate the numbered 250 limitation. I wouldn’t mind if it was a simple 250 print run. But numbering them seems, to me, to be taking the comic collecting industry into a bad place.

    1. I think what probably happened is there was a tremendous amount of angry hoopla in previous 9.8 editions that had a stated print run, but then a few more than the stated published print run ultimately showed up. This numbered edition concept gives confidence to the collector that there are truly only the published amount. (I don’t know this is the reason this was done, but it seems logical). I agree, bad place for industry. But this is what happens when anger and excessive public shaming occur. We live in a crazy “action – reaction” world these days.

      1. It is smart business. The outcry, mostly legitimate, over the Dell’Otto virgin variant required a change by all involved to protect 1) The Retailers 2) CBCS and 3) The Buyers.
If you are selling a high price, premium, limited collectible (of any kind) basic protections have to be in place. Otherwise buyers will stop buying.
On a side note, the premium collectible statues have been doing a similar thing for decades.

      2. Look at what happened with the Here’s Negan comic from the Image Blind boxes. I think a numbered print run would have helped there.
Speaking of which did they ever release a statement about it?

    2. Getting tired of $150 for one book I did but the Metal 250 print run cover. Rather see a 250 print run of a big book at a $10 buy in. Let your customers benefit from the second market.

      1. I feel the same way. I actually avoid 98% of store variants, just because the market is flooded and they are all pretty nice, so really none end up standing out much. I would have liked this one, but def not at $150. I’m also a raw guy, as it just seems silly to me to pay 500-1000X the retailers cost of the book just to get it trapped in a slab. $10-12 is my ceiling on these exclusives now, which is 5-6X what the book costs at the printer, if its a single version. Most are $15+ though, and pretty much everything is being released in sets, which I also avoid. This short term way of thinking is hurting the industry. I do absolutely love that Crain cover though….

      2. Unfortunately, you can’t do a 250 copy print run for $10 on a Marvel or DC book unless you want to lose a massive amount of money. Cost alone with no mark up is multiple times that number per copy at 250 copies. If you want a low print run on a Big 2 book, you have to pay a premium, and if you’re going to pay a premium, you should get a premium package, thus the Ultimate Edition.

  2. To be honest I’m happy with the connecting cover set. It’s the whole Venomverse set and I’m sure #2, #3, #4, #5 are not going to have many if any store variants for those issues. So with the set you have a variant print run of 600 for all the books of the story.

  3. I think what I should have said is that it is “unfortunate” for the industry. Not “bad” for the industry. It’s just another piece of small pie of what once used to be fun. It is unfortunate what has happened but it is also necessary. I agree

  4. Designed to cater to hardcore fans…
Love the cover, but I guess I’m just not hardcore enough. S’okay, I’ll just settle for my ASM 361 I bought for cover over 20 years ago… Lol!

      1. DC is doing the exact same thing with the Harley Quinn 25th Anniversary issue.
They are ALL doing it. Don’t put a price on the cover and sell it for four times the amount shown (or more!)

  5. I understand some of the concerns, but if you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
I don’t think these are good investments personally, but these type of variants can provide some great covers for the PC.
