Sony is looking to expand its Spider-Man shared universe with a film centered on Morbius, the Living Vampire. Power Rangers writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama developed the script, which was submitted to Sony “after a secret development process.”
Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, Morbius first debuted in October 1971 in Amazing Spider-man #101. Dr. Michael Morbius is a Nobel Prize-winning scientist who attempted to create a cure for his own rare blood disease using vampires. Instead of finding a cure, Morbius turned himself into a vampire-like figure who needed to consume blood to continue living.
Morbius started as an antagonist to Spider-Man, but would eventually go on to have a heroic career of his own for a time. The antihero even headlined his own ongoing series in 2013 from Marvel Comics.

  1. This is one of those characters that doesn’t really need Spiderman to be in it or to be good…Would still be nice for Sony to sell the rights back to Marvel though….Regardless, it has potential…Right now the book is already pricey… it has been for a while now. Will still probably still see a bump as the news spreads… A good option would be the silver reprint. A few out there in high grade between $8 and $15.

    1. You are correct. It can be set in the Spidey Universe without needing Spidey. They could go very dark with this. I am hoping they do a movie reprint like they did for the ASM first punisher (Lionsgate edition) I love those.

      1. If they are going to make Venom Dark and R rated I hope this gets the same treatment. No kid stuff, go all out with the violence and horror aspects…I would enjoy more Lionsgate reprints!

  2. I love Morbius! Definitely a better villain choice than Mysterio for a movie. Not sure of the writers though, they already had a shot at a vampire movie and it was a bomb. I know its not always the writing that makes a bad movie, but just saying.

    1. Also, don’t forget there is a 2nd print of this one. So if you want the 1st print look for the 15 cent cover. I almost made that mistake a while back, but it certainly is the cheaper option.

    1. There are still a few deals still to be had with the reprint but they are running thin. The price is definitely moving up a bit with this book right now. Lots of movement on the first print, especially the past two days with all the affordable or priced to sell issues gone. Still a handful being offered at full guide but I would think anyone putting the issue up for sale from here on out will offer it at a premium due to the movie.

  3. The guys who wrote Power Rangers, Gods of Egypt, and Dracula Untold. Yeah, this won’t be a steaming turd. Impossible, right?

    1. Yeah, no idea why Sony chose them..I hope they have some strict guidelines he has to follow since it is in a shared world.
