Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 11/15/17

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 11/15/17:
The end of the year has been quiet. Con season is over for the most part, and we are seeing less spec books, and winners coming out between now and the end of the year. But, here are the books that have caught our eye this week.
Black Science #33 – Great Rick Remender series that keeps evolving. Hard to jump in at this  point but the back issues are worth tracking down.
Descender #26 – Like Black Science, this has become a sprawling epic. Worth the read. Cannot wait to hear more on the option from Sony, but at least the book is so good.
Kill The Minotaur #6 – This has been a great read and was optioned. the last issue of a series are typically under ordered so this could be the one to get. Not to mention if it does make air, then sets will be great sells.
Invincible #142 – Speaking of optioned epics, this is coming to the screen, and the story is coming to a close. If you haven’t read it, you can still pick up back issues fairly cheap. Worth the read.
Mage The Hero Denied #4 -Matt Wagner is an important part of my childhood, both Grendel and Mage were must haves for me. I still adore the character and love how Kevin Matchstick has evolved.
The One with the TV Tie-in
Punisher #218 Netflix TV Variant – Nothing you can say about a book that gives the deadliest man alive a suite of unstoppable armor armed to the teeth. Top it off with a Netflix accurate cover and you could have a winner.
Small Press Pick of the Week
Brilliant Trash #1 – Not saying this will do anything close to what Animosity did for Aftershock, but the preview I read was really good and very interesting. Worth the pick up of the first issue to see how it goes.
The Pick of the Week
Dark Nights Batman Who Laughs #1 – DC’s juggernaut Metal rocks on. This time we get the one shot featuring the origin story of the most dynamic mash-up character yet. The hybrid Batman Joker has taken the comic world by storm and his first appearance has heated up (Metal #2 or Teen Titans #12 depending  on which side of the fence you are on.)
That is it for me this week. As always, let us know what you are speccing on. And in case you missed it, here is this week’s New Comic Spec review Video:

      1. To me, cameo’s are an appearance. Is this their first appearance in Dark Days Casting.. sure, but the market is picking Teen Titans #12 as the clear winner for this new character.

  1. It sucks that Metal #2 and Teen Titans #12 both came out on the same day. I think it’s going to be a debate for a long time what is his 1st appearance.

    1. Perhaps we’ll have to go by timeline in the story then. If Metal #2 is before TT #12, then it’s first and vice versa.
From all the Metal lists I’ve seen, seems TT #12 is always listed before Metal #2. That tells me TT #12 takes place before Metal #2 so that appearance precedes.

      1. Now I’ve read in multiple places that Metal #2 should be read before TT #12.. ughh.. That mans that last page full page cameo would come before TT #12 story, which actually makes more sense anyways.

  2. It seems like a pretty clear example of Metal #2 being 1st appearance (cameo) and Teen Titans #12 having the note “1st full appearance”. I expect both to do decent in the long haul, with TT 12 doing the best of the two.

    1. I found this where someone states:
“Casting is 1st shadow cameo – Metal 2 is first full cameo, or whatever we wanna call it (nice crisp big image on last page. -TT12 is full story”
Seems all the DC wiki pages point to Casting as first appearance for him and most others (probably since they don’t care about cameo’s and what not, cameo, shadow cameo, etc is all the squibbles and squabbles of collectors just stirring up the debate pot with intricate details of what’s what).
I can’t recall if I actually bought Casting and if I did, I can’t find it but I can only manage to find this image of what appears to be the shadow cameo of most of the new villains, including Batman who Laughs.

  3. TT #12 is the book worth investing in, IMO. Less cover variants, lower print run (I believe), technically TBWL’s first full appearance…and Cover A is TBWL’s first cover appearance as well so give that one the edge over the A vs. B covers.

  4. And currently the market tells us that TT #12 is the winner so far for The Batman Who Laughs though.. those are selling for the highest dollar amount so far from my searches. Seems TT #12 sells for around the $20+ range.. lots of current listing with some auctions, cheapest listing that is BIN is $32.99.
