Image's New Horror Series Evolution Gets 2nd Print

I’m seeing a pattern here, are you seeing it as well? Image’s “Hot New Horror Series” Evolution is going back for a second print.

Seems like all Image titles get a second print. Not sure about the rest of the country but a lot of these second prints never make it to my local shops cause my local shops are still trying to dump off their remaining 1st print copies.
I have yet to read this book myself but was looking forward to it. I like some of the writers taking part of this book but 4 writers just gives me the feeling it might not work so well. What’s that saying? There’s too many chef’s in the kitchen? I did like the fact that this only had 1 cover (not counting any store exclusives).
Regardless, here’s the press release Image sent out.
From the Press Release:

The hot new Image/Skybound horror series EVOLUTION from writers James Asmus, Joseph Keatinge, Christopher Sebela, and Joshua Williamson with artists Joe Infurnari and Jordan Boyd is being rushed back to print in order to keep up with increased customer demand.
Human evolution has taken millions of years to get to the stage it’s reached in EVOLUTION. But next week, we become something new. Around the world, humanity is undergoing rapid and unpredictable changes, and only three individuals seem to notice that their world is being reborn. But what can they do about it?

EVOLUTION #1 will remain available for purchase across all digital platforms, including the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com), the official Image Comics iOS app, Comixology’s website (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.
EVOLUTION #1, 2nd printing (Diamond Code SEP178856) and EVOLUTION #2 (Diamond Code OCT170668) will be available on Wednesday, December 20th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, November 27th.

    1. Very nice. Yeah, I’ve been meaning to get to it, this week has been hectic. Work, ubering the kids around to and from school, after school activities..

    1. Nothing that I’ve seen or read yet. Seems most of their most recent 2nd prints all use the same cover art for the most part.

  1. first issue was really good. teen titans #12 closing in on $50 on eBay. love it. added two more for cover price two days ago.

    1. TT#12 was scarce around my area on release day. I managed to pick up a copy, been trying to locate it in one of the many long boxes it got stuffed into. I think this is a long term hold. I don’t think we’re seeing the last of this new villain and TT#12 will only continue to become a rare gem.

    2. I saw a couple of these in a shop the other day. I’ll have to go back to get them if they are still there. I just wish I could have gotten a couple more of the B covers, even though he is on the A cover I’d still like to a couple more B’s.

  2. Did you guys see the fool on Ebay who has a TT #12 up for 1000$ LOL
He has 5 copies available and he’s asking for a grand each.
    Hilarious!

  3. I just read Evolution last night. I thought it was a really good read with great art. My LCS still had a ton of these on the shelf Thursday when I stopped in.

    1. It’s all really hit or miss with Indie books. With indies, it all boils down to demand due to popularity. Heathen was a great spec so far for Vault, since then, not many have heated up.
Scout has had a few hits but not all have heated up. I did pretty well with Infernoct’s 1:10 variant.
Amigo, the only book I did really well on was Straitjacket, not much luck with the other titles they’ve released since.
As for future value of any book? There’s never any guarantees.

      1. Thanks for the response..Yea I pre-order on Midtown but usually try to wait until Anthony and Terry put out their picks.. Dont want to always shell out $ for every indie No. 1 that hits, sometimes they seem to sell out on MTC before the videos hit though lol I see three titles from those publishers that arrive this coming week.

        1. I actually do the same. Only seldomly I will pre-order indie books, the ones that really look interesting and which ones I think my local shops won’t get. If I don’t pre-order, I usually wait until release day to skim them and determine then if I’m gonna buy them or not.

  4. I read Evolution tonight…. It was good enough to probably read issue 2. Its not worthy yet to know if I should hold until TPB comes out though.

  5. The book was an OK read .. I don’t know why Image would intentionally do a 2nd print of anything in order to drive spec sales on first prints, unless they know there is demand and the 1st prints are gone .. if that’s what you’re implying .. unless they have a secret side business speculating on their own books .. anything is possible in this business ..

    1. It’s all marketing tactics to me. Press release to claim a new book is going back for second print might boost sales, making people think it’s more popular than it really is so they go out to check it out as well. Image is in the money making business, I’m sure they’ll say whatever makes them more money. 🙂

      1. While anything is possible, the shops have to support the effort, that’s the thing about the Direct Market .. 25 years ago, the Market was not driven by innuendo and hype VIA the Web, as it is now .. I’m sure Image is milking that as best they can and rightfully so .. the Comic Speculation biz is much like a Pyramid Scheme these days .. and I think we are nearing the end of this particular cycle / bubble ..

        1. Yeah. I would love to get back to the point where good books go up in value cause they’re simply great reads with great art, driven by real demand.
