Mel V's Variant Picks for January 3, 2017

What Up CHU? Mel V. back again, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! The holidays are over so its back to the grind. Con season is fast approaching as well. New Year and a new season for Variants as well. Let’s get into this light first week of the new year.

Batman #38 Cover B Olivier Coipel Variant  – Coipel been on fire lately. Issue 38 sold out through Diamond and has been heavily spec’d on for a while. Surprised this cover b hasn’t sold out at Midtown as of the time I am writing this

Classic Popeye #65 Cover B Incentive Len Danovich – Shout out to Gary N for opening my eyes to this variant, a 1:10 on a book that hardly nobody orders. The zombie cover has me intrigued as a collectors item. I will try to find one

Rise Of The Black Panther #1 Cover F Incentive Paul Renaud Variant Cover (Marvel Legacy Tie-In) – With the Black Panther movie fast approaching, I’m keeping a eye out on cool looking BP variants ..this fits that criteria ..not earth shattering but a nice cool cover

Shadow Batman #4 Cover B Variant Philip Tan Cover – There are several good looking covers for this one, but in my opinion,  this one is the best of the bunch. But then again I’m a fan of Tan’s work

  1. Maybe that Popeye zombie variant will start a Popeye zombie series, like the one Archie variant. I would buy it, and we know IDW would release it regularly not like the Archie one.

    1. I dont think there will ever be one posted . was all over NY today ..only 1 at all 3 midtown shops..My peoples at Grand Central and Fulton told me they barely order 5 copies of that book let alone 10 to qualify for the incentive

    2. I managed to pre-order a copy a couple weeks ago. I’ve got my fingers crossed it arrives in great shape.

      1. From Where..just trying to get a feel where they at .. so far I know of 1 at Midtown 1 at Midtown online 1 at TFAW 1 Graham Cracker 1 in a spot in Canada and 1 at a spot in Jersey

  2. It’s funny that it took Batman for Coipel to get any attention. His work on Thor and Avengers was outstanding.
