DrunkWooky's January 2018 Star Wars Update!

What is up, CHU!?
Happy new solar cycle! Well, we all made it through the holidays, my parents are always a handful during the traditional Wookiee holiday, Life Day.
Welcome to a new year and hopefully a nova-bright future for the Star Wars franchise!

To start things off, we recently received our first Solo: a Star Wars Story synopsis via a 2018 Disney Media Kit distributed to news sources and media outlets:
“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
Solo: A Star Wars Story releases in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.”
Big Shiny Robot had the scoop on this.
What’s intriguing here is that we now have confirmation that we’ll get some theatrical backstory regarding Chewbacca and Han Solo’s relationship. The story has been hinted at and talked about in the expanded universe since the 90s, but hopefully we get a solid theatrical treatment of Chewie’s life debt backstory here.
Moving into comics, there was great fear among the Star Wars comic collecting world that, due to an oversight on Marvel’s part, Star Wars #40 was going to be the first issue without the now-classic John Tyler Christopher Action Figure Variant treatment.
Never fear, however, JTC stepped in himself offering an awesome Luke in Yavin Fatigues Exclusive variant. The announcement is below with a link to JTC’s full press release with details on order. Pre-Order begins January 25th at 6PM EST on johntylerchristopher.com

JTC’s Press Release
Here’s a full view of the Issue #40 exclusive:

Speaking of Action Figure variants, issue #1 of the Marvel Comics adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s latest Thrawn novel will also get JTC’s treatment. I’m sure this cover will be popular seeing as Thrawn has been a cult expanded universe favorite since Zahn’s original Thrawn trilogy in the 90s.

Of course, our friends over at Jedi Bibliothek had the drop on this Previews World release. Thrawn issue 1 is out February 14, 2018.
Also from Jedi Bibliothek, the next batch of Rod Reis “Galactic Icon” headshot variants has been released. These appear to be the Marvel’s 2018 answer to the 40th anniversary variants in 2017.
4/36 is Poe Dameron on Star Wars #43 out February 7, 2018.

5/36 is General Leia on Darth Vader #11 out February 14, 2018:

and 6/36 is Luke Skywalker on Doctor Aphra #17 out February 21, 2018. I would add that Luke is the first Galactic Icon cover to show a New Jedi Order symbol in the background rather than the Alliance Starbird in the first five.

In case you missed them 1/36 through 3/36 were Rey, on Star Wars #41, Finn, on Darth Vader #10, and Rose, on Doctor Aphra #15 repectively.

That’s it from the Wild Regions beyond known hyperspace lanes for now, CHU! Stay warm, don’t eat yellow snow, and drink your blue milk!
