Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 4/18/18

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/18/18:

Interesting week this week. Not a huge spec week, but some great books. This is one of those weeks where books sneak up on you.

The Legacy One
Action Comics #1000 (available on eBay) – Grab the cover that you like. While this will not be hot out of the gate due to the probably enormous print run, these anniversary books appreciate over time.

For the Cover
Batman #45 – Shooting for the Jim Lee cover myself, great looking cover.
Harley Quinn #42 Variant Frank Cho Cover – I love Frank Cho and his work on Harley has been top notch. This is the second of a connecting cover that pairs with issue #41.

The Quirky One
Tap Dance Killer #1 – small press oddball book that looks pretty good. I am looking forward to this one.

The New #1’s
Skyward #1 – Interesting premise that looks really good. Expect a sell out as with most Image books and probably a second print.

Her Infernal Descent #1 (available on eBay) – I would go to hell and back for my kids, this new Aftershock book features a mom that does just that. I like Aftershock books a lot and wish they got more spec love.

Black Hammer Age Of Doom #1 – Love this book. The Skottie Young cover is selling out on-line.

The Cheap One
True Believers Venom vs Spider-Man #1 Second Print – A dollar comic that went back for a second print. Awesome. Doesn’t hurt that it is the reprint of the first appearance of Venom.

Small Press Gem
Wasted Space #1 – By Michael Moreci, which is a big plus, I like his stuff. Read the solicitation and tell me this doesn’t sound interesting:

Billy Bane is a prophet who got it all wrong, and the galaxy has been burning ever since. All he wants is to waste away in the darkest corner of space with his best pal Dust, a supercharged Fuq bot. But when a new prophet comes calling, Billy is summoned to save the galaxy he’s at least partially responsible for destroying. Too bad he couldn’t care less. Michael Moreci and Hayden Sherman have thrown Philip K. Dick in a blender with Preacher. Take a sip and get wasted.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #26 – The Ranger love has been real. I have sold so many copies of Go Go Power Rangers #8 and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 that it is insane. This issue picks up after last issue’s death and continues the Shattered Grid story line.

The Pick of the Week
Amazing Spider-Man #799 – I got picked apart in the comments on Youtube for picking this over Action #1000, I put the spoilers up and Amazing Spiderman #263, available on eBay, is a key book over night. Can’t win with everyone. However, this book is worth picking up for the last page. I think Dan Scott has been phoning it in for a while, but he has unleashed for his last couple of books.

  1. I just avoid YouTube comments when I do view videos on their site. One can lose IQ points reading such comments.

      1. That is one reason I was drawn to CHU. From the beginning everyone who commented just seemed cool. We seriously never have any controversial comments here or silly arguments that get personal.

      2. If think it’s because people here realize we’re talking comic books. And the information shared here is done willingly with the intent to help others with knowledge of what’s going on in the comic universe To everyone’s benefit. How can you get upset or controversial with that?

        1. You’d be surprised. I use to moderate a Linux forum and youd think it’d be a bunch of geeks and nerds talking about computer stuff getting along but we’d have to step in and close discussions or delete posts all the time due to the nasty people and trolls.

  2. True believers also has the silver surfer #34 reprint this week. The original issue is not an expensive book and can be had for $10-$20 (unless you’re after 9.6 or higher graded). This book doesn’t get the love it deserves, like silver surfer 44, in the Thanos mythos. So,pick it up for a buck.
Having said that, I wish they’d reprint issue 44 as even the most beat up copies demand $20 on eBay, and all other reprints of the issue in trade are out of print and command premium price tag as well. Been trying to get a reader copy for under $15 for over a year…
Fortunately a new trade is coming out in a month which bridges the gap between Thanos rebirth and Infinity Gauntlet…it may even include Thanos quest and Logan’s run. I pre ordered it from midtown previews as Amazon wasn’t offering any pre order discount which was strange.

  3. I do wish that DC did a #1000 variant for Action like the ones they did for Batman #800 and the ones for Flash and Wonder Woman. That’s the only way I would have bought a copy.

    1. Oh for sure. I frequent ESPN for my NBA news and the few times I venture down to the comments, its just a cesspool of idiots and dumbassery going on.
