Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/2/18

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 5/2/18:Big week of books!

The Cheap One

DC Nation #0 – Starting DC Comics next big story lines. Including the wedding of Batman and Catwoman, and I hear they are finally addressing the three Jokers. Many store will be giving this 25 cent book away.

New Image #1

Death Or Glory #1 – Rick Remender! I read this a couple of weeks ago and it is really good. A family living off the grid, the problem is living off the grid doesn’t come with health insurance. Glory has to duo bad against people who are even worse to save someone she loves. Reminder knows about getting books optioned and I am eyeing all his future works.

For the Covers

Spawn #285 – has four Francesco Mattina Split Face Covers, some saw this as a money grab, but you get the combined cover, a half mask cover, half hamburger head cover, and the virgin split face cover. Grab the ones you like (for me it is cover a and the virgin)

Deathstroke #31 Jerome Opena Cover – just a very good looking cover. I loved Opena’s work on Seven to Eternity.

The “Just for Fun” One

You Are Deadpool #1 – four part weekly “choose your own adventure” / Role playing game Deadpool book. Just a fun concept.

The One to Watch

Go Go Power Rangers #9 – this is the continuation of the Shattered Grid story line. Issue 8 sold well, I want to see how this one does.

Small Press Gem

Cyber Spectre #1 – Scouts new book done by Richard Emms, the Kickstarter for this did extremely well and there have been a couple of ashcan versions out for cons. Great art by Ale Graza. Only down side is there are a bunch of covers for it. Shoot for cover A, or pick the one you like best.

Small Press Pick of the Week

Alien Toilet Monsters #1 – Available on eBay, sold out pretty much every where else. Odd ball small press book that looks funny as heck. Could develop a following.

The Long Term Pick of the Week

Star Wars Tag & Bink Were Here #1 – reprints the collected tales of Tag and Binks, the goes for good money on eBay. Not sure how this will effect the original, but this is an excellent read pick up. Strong long term growth potential.

And in case you missed it, here is this week’s new comic spec review video:

  1. I have got DC Nation #0 pre-ordered. I just now noticed that you placed a Disclaimer at the top of the site.

    1. FCC requires it. We link to other sites, eBay, tfaw, Amazon, mycomicshop. We get a small commission from sales that are generated to the end sites. With as big as the site has become it helps to pay for hosting and other fees associated with running the site. Not enough to live off, buy a boat, and retire off, but enough to keep the site running. I got a compliance notice stating the disclaimer is needed and I put it up.

      1. One complaint, Tony. There is no ‘home’ option in your drop diwn menu. It was the easiest way to get back to the main page after reading and commenting on any given post. Please bring back the ‘home’ option your drop down menu. Thx!

          1. The logo click is awesome. Love it. Cant believe i did figure that out way earlier. Cheers

                1. Great, now you tell me! Do you know how hard it is to program a home button in wordpress? It literally is like 700 lines of code. (not really took two seconds.) I wish I could code. It sounds cool to say it though.

      2. I figured it worked like that. Whenever I buy something from one of the big online comic sites I always come back here and find a link to take me back so I can check out.

        1. That is greatly appreciated. I should just do it on the disclaimer. Lol. Make it easier. But when you get an FCC notification, you want to make sure you comply.

  2. I e never bought a deadpool book…this choose your own adventure sounds interesting enough to make it my first. Will look for cover C.

      1. Apparently they are making a movie based on the books, with the gimmick that the audience in theaters will select which plot is followed. That’s what I read on the AVClub or somewhere.

      2. They don’t make them anymore?!! Blasphemy!!
I grew up with a Commodore 64 (C=64). It was so easy to write your own text adventures with I think it was basic code…I used to spend a good portion of my weekend creating choose your own adventure games and playing them…then I discovered comics…

  3. death or glory is getting out pretty good, maybe just because its a Image book, but I like Coda much more from boom studios
