Things I Like and Don't Like for the Week of June 20th, 2018

Last week seemed more like a downer week with a lot more dislikes than likes. I’m hoping this week is more positive. I guess it all depends on my attitude right?

We saw some great books with some winners, seems like it’s been a while since we had some real winners as flip spec worthy books. I guess we can claim Batgirl #23 B was a spec flip worthy book but then again, it was selling well before it was even released. What I like are the books that you can actually find on the shelves come Wednesday morning and the heat picks up by the end of the day as people are discovering them.
Wednesday’s Winners
So my first like is Anthony found the time to bring back the Wednesday Winners. Here’s to hoping we have enough winner books to keep them coming each week.
Cheetah
Out of all the recent DC movies, Wonder Woman by far has been my favorite (and no, not because I’m in love with Gal Gadot, Chris Pine is just as delicious).
I might be behind on the news but I’ve recently read it’s almost a definite now that Cheetah will be the main villain in the next Wonder Woman movie, based in the 80s. There have been 4 different Cheetah’s but from the reports I’ve read, the movie’s version will be based on the Wonder Woman #7 (1987) 1st appearance who was Barbara Anne Minerva as Cheetah. Alana first mentioned that Cheetah would likely play the villain almost 2 years go when the first rumors were swirling.
There have been 4 Cheetah’s so far, one being a male. Since a female has been cast, we can likely rule out Ballesteros 1st appearance as a spec book. The first Cheetah was Priscilla Rich making the first appearance in Wonder Woman #6 (1943). A book likely not in most collectors budgets. The next one made her debut in Wonder Woman #274 back in 1980. This one still had a shot but with all the reports of filming locations and possible plots, this version of Cheetah is unlikely. Also, didn’t they redact most of her origin and Minerva used that name to commit crimes when New 52 was relaunched?
The big like is not just Cheetah being the main villain in the movie but who’s been tapped to play her, which has been confirmed with Kristen Wiig. I like Kristen Wiig. Hopefully she can bring some of her funny in the role as well.
Iron Man: Tony Stark Will Likely Miss the Mark
Not just the million covers but Dan Slott is writing this new chapter for Iron Man. No thanks.
I think all the different suits over the years is a cool concept but do we really need the same back drop with new suit on so many covers? Just make a freebie book to give away that covers all the suits or throw in a few pages in the back of the book to depict them all. Talk about a total cash grab.
Cover price at $4.99 x 20 Armor Variant Covers = $99.80 + Tax. Yeah, no thanks.
Some defend Dan Slott’s run on Amazing Spider-Man but I seem to talk to more people who had more negative things to say than positive. So here’s to hoping he doesn’t ruin Iron Man for the next 10 years.
Ding Dong Dan Slott’s Gone
Amazing Spider-Man #801 is Dan Slott’s last issue after 10 years of ASM. Not sure how he lasted as long as he did since Marvel changes writers on titles more often than some people change their underwear.
So this is his last issue. Perhaps now Amazing Spider-Man can go into some sort of redemption mode. Here’s to hoping to some brighter days are here for the webslinger we all fell in love with as kids.
This is actually a big like. I’ve been waiting for a fresh start for one of my long time favorite Marvel heroes.

That’s all the rambling I have this week. See, more positive than negative. A shout out to all the Dad’s out there, hope you had a great Father’s Day.

    1. Mmmm.. maybe we’ll get Professor IronX. Professor X in a new Iron Man suit. Because you know, we demanded it.

  1. I find it funny I dropped ASM right around brand new day….and only picked it up again with the red goblin story. So I can’t say much other than he sent me packing early on and only on his way out the door was I intereste again.

  2. I refuse to buy any of the Ironman books… this is ridiculous. Just like the Spawn books… NO THANKS!!!

    1. Yeah. talk about a cash grab catering to the weak people who feel the need to complete the collection with every cover available. SMH..

  3. Heres something that irks me. I hate eBay buyers who make an offer and add a msg that asks for free shipping. Why not just make an offer that is lower? I feel like the people that do this are trying to be sneaky by including the free shipping msg. If i was to accept the offer and not see the msg included, then I am obligated to send it with free shipping. If you sell using the phone app, be weary if buyers who use this tactic.

    1. Yeah, if it’s a price I’m willing to accept, I always respond back with a counter offer with the shipping costs added.

  4. I don’t get that much, but I do get “Will you take $12 for this $30 book ..?” On items that do not have “Make an Offer” ..

      1. Yep .. it’s like people think sellers are desperate .. especially if the book is already fairly priced ..

      2. Not only rude but an insult. I’ve had people offer $5 on books selling for $75. Those types get added to the block list.
