Jared Leto Cast as Morbius the Living Vampire in Spiderman Spinoff

Jared Leto, most recently known for his portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad, has been cast as Morbius the Living Vampire in a Spiderman Spin off movie.
Morbius, who first appeared in the classic Amazing Spiderman #101, a currently affordable key, is set to get his own stand alone movie, starring Jared Leto.
From IGN.com:

Jared Leto has reportedly been cast as Morbius, the Living Vampire in an upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film of the same name.
As reported by Variety, Jared Leto, known for his roles in Blade Runner 2049, Dallas Buyers Club, and as The Joker in Suicide Squad, is set to play the titular role in the upcoming Morbius movie. Director Daniel Espinosa, known for his work on Safe House and Life, is set to helm the movie and screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama have penned the script.
Late last year it was reported that a Morbius film was in the works at Sony, and now it appears that this villain and anti-hero’s story is that much closer to hitting the silver screen. The character, Dr. Michael Morbius, was originally created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, first appearing in 1963’s Amazing Spiderman #101 with a host of vampiric powers.
Sony has been hard at work utilizing the Spider-Man IP, with the spinoff Silk being reportedly developed, and with Venom nearing its release in October. Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to last year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, is set to release next year as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe may soon expand even further, as Disney is one step closer to acquiring various Marvel film rights from 21st Century Fox. However, Spider-Man and various characters from his universe, including Morbius, are still under Sony’s wing.

  1. I think Leto could be a great a Morbius…hope there’s a good story, script, supporting cast et al.

    1. That all depends…. If its Marvel Studios its going to make a Billion dollars worldwide. If its Sony or another studio…. Its probably going to suck.

  2. Jared Leto needs to stick to singing. He sucks as an actor. He didn’t do a good job paying the joker and was talking all this B.S. saying he didn’t want the roll when people stared to criticize him and then later when he was offered a solo joker movie he was all happy and saying how he enjoyed playing the joker. Get a grip Leto!!! I think they can find a way better Morbius.

    1. Requiem for a Dream is an amazing and disturbing movie probably Leto’s best work to date and one of his first if not first films.

    1. I would think just 101… Marvel Premier 28 is a pretty cool book, but right now I think it is just for hard core monster comic collectors….Unless Legion of Monsters becomes a thing.

    1. Vampire Tales #1 1st solo Morbius, it pre-dates Fear #20 by 8 months. Way less copies out there than Fear. I have them both so I’m good either way

  3. 1971 not 1963. Does anyone really care about Morbius? I guess people do since there is a movie in the works, but never once in 33 years of collecting have I ever had a conversation about Morbius or him being someone’s fav or anything about him, and I work in the industry and talk comics everyday. I hold 10 copies of this book a day and couldn’t care less about it. I just won’t be seeing it in the theater nor Venom either. Only Spidey for me for Sony properties.
