One Year Later: Spec Review for 7/5/17

What up CHUllectors!?! Shawn B. the One Year Later Investigator, back with another One Year Later round up, where we take a look at some of the comics that Anthony, Mel, and Poyo specced on one year ago. Their specs turn out to be quick flips, slow burns, straight up misses, straight up winners and on and on. Sometimes they spec with their hearts out of their passion for comics. Sometimes they spec based on data. And sometimes they spec based off the word on the street. Either way, all their specs appeal to a few or many collectors whether it is due to them having similar taste in writing or art, or just an opportunity for a collector to flip a book and make money to “support their habit”. So, this is our weekly chance to look back at how some of our buys from a year ago are doing today.

  1. I bet big on the MIddleton Batman and the TB Amazing Fantasy reprint—nice to see them climb in value.

    1. Same here, Vann. Cant go wrong with an AF15 reprint, no matter how modern.
I also really like BG20s Middleton B cover.

      1. My thinking exactly. Of all the TB reprint books…..the AF15 was an open net. How many of us are ever going to even get close to the original? For $1.00…I wish I bought 50 more…..maybe 100 more.

        1. I bought about 40 of them @ $1 CND. Ive easily tripled or quadrupled my initial investment already and I only have 25 or so left. I look for them in every shop I visit. ?

      2. I bought 75—-If you’re selling them for $4, that’s way too cheap my friend. I just broke them out for sale myself—once they cracked above $10. I don’t know if they’ll go higher or not, but I’ll hold some back for longer term. I too look for them everywhere I go—it’s low hanging fruit! I haven’t even started looking at selling those Batman Middleton covers….I’ll continue to wait for a bit more.

        1. Ive been selling them for $10 US + shipping (10×15=150, 150/40=3.8ish). Where did you get $4 from?

      3. I think I misunderstood your post—you referenced your entire investment on the book and the ROI…..not just what you sold. Apologies as you’re clearly selling them for above $10 each.

  2. Didn’t realize BM26B was Middleton…I accidentally damaged mine from those self sealing bags, and had to get another one even though I had a copy of cover A.

TB AF15 is likely popular in 9.8 as its really hard to find an AF15 reprint in high grade otherwise. I tried to search for ones for years raw and finally settled on one that was already graded by cbcs as 9.4 to get Stan lees signature…before it went up to $175…

  3. Deadpool kills MU again #1 Pepe Late as variant was in my opinion one of the best covers last year. I still have mine in my PC.

  4. rick and morty is big pimping. wish I didn’t sell all the amazing fantasy true belivers but there are other a.f. #15 reprints that I enjoy more for resale . the 50th remastered and marvel tales #137 nisbco mail away come to mind . love you all blind adam out

      1. I think the bulk of the slabbed issues are signed by Stan .. and bringing some pretty good coin

      2. Pay $1 for a book. Pay $35-$50 for the graded slab. Sell for $100 or more.. Hmm.. it’s pretty easy to see why some would do such a thing.
