Spoilers: Extermination #1 Deaths and Reveals

Extermination #1 is out today. It is the latest event story in the X-Men mythos. It features the time traveling Mutants being hunted by a hooded mystery killer. Spoilers follow so only read on if you do not mind spoilers. The images are redacted but the accompanying text is not. Click the spoiler warnings to see the spoiled images.

Time travel and all the alternate versions of characters makes my head hurt. But here is what we get.

Unrelated to the previously mentioned masked killer, the story starts off with two of the more long term Mutants out to dinner when…

We see the masked killer fighting with another Summers.

A fight that doesn’t go in his favor

In fact, it goes really bad.

And at the end of the issue, we get the reveal of who the main baddy is in the series

    1. I don’t think they are coming back. I think Marvel is ending the time lost X-Men for good. It started out as a cool idea during the Bendis era of the X-Men but, it has overstayed its welcome. A lot of fans have been voicing their desire to see a cohesive X-Men team book again. With Uncanny coming out, killing these characters off makes perfect sense. It has already been established that they come from an alternate reality and not the 616. I am going to give it a shot. I have dropped every other X book so I figure why not? The X-Men need to be great again. The last X-Men series I enjoyed was Wolverine & The X-Men.

    1. Everything Marvel does is uninspiring. Or inspired by two previously developed characters surrounded by another 10 issue event that ultimately resets the timeline….again!

  1. I love it, personally. Hope the younger Cable sticks around, as the older version and his constant battle with the TO virus was getting very stale over the past few years. Any spec value on this one, if the young Cable sticks around (as old Cable is missing from the image put out by Marvel of all of the X-men last week)?

  3. After a strong start with the “Fresh Start” concept, it looks like Marvel are shooting themselves in the foot with all these events.

  4. These events Marvel is doing lately, killing off the extraneous crap, remind me of an issue of ‘Saga of The Swamp Thing’ (#20). If you don’t know it, it was Alan Moore’s first issue, called ‘Loose Ends.’ He conveniently killed off overly complex storylines and characters in a single issue.

As you know, this was followed up by a universally recognized all time top ten story run in that series.

This gives me hope that this stuff is simply righting the ship for the future.
