Things I Like and Dislike for the Week of November 28th, 2018

It’s that time again, where I tell you what’s really grinding my gears for the week of November 28th, 2018.
Some weeks it’s mostly likes, other weeks it’s dislikes.
So what’s grinding my gears this week?

DC Killing Another Robin?
Anyone else read the news that hints at another Robin might be on the chopping block in Batman Beyond?

The Joker is prepared to deliver his fatal punchline as everything—and the kitchen sink, too—hits the fan for Batman and Robin. Even with Dick Grayson’s help, the Dynamic Duo of tomorrow and Bruce Wayne may not stand a chance. Will The Joker turn Terry’s brother into the new Jason Todd? Is now a good time for Terry and Bruce to clash? And why are Neo-Gothamites cheering on the Clown Prince? Will anyone survive “The Final Joke”?

If true, what’s the death count up to now? If we can even call them deaths.
Well, let’s go through the notable deaths of Robin. The first one was Jason Todd back in Batman #428 in the Death in the Family story line. This one will likely be the most popular story lines since it was the first and it was a shock back in the day for many Batman fans. Jason Todd was later resurrected.
Next was Stephanie Brown who yes, was a Robin for a short stint but it was later revealed her death was faked (unlike the others, no resurrection necessary), so we’ll just skip on past her as she doesn’t count. If you are interested though, you can find Batman #633 for dirt cheap.
Next up is Damian Wayne who dies in Batman Incorporated #8 dying by the Heretic. Bruce ends up resurrecting Damian from Darkseid’s Chaos Shard.
Dick Grayson dies temporarily in Forever Evil #7, although no longer a full time Robin, he was the original Robin. This was very brief since he was revived immediately after his heart was stopped to prevent a bomb from going off. Does it count as an actual death then? You be the judge.
In Detective Comics #940 we saw the next death of a Robin, Tim Drake. But as the entire Bird and Bat family all mourn his death initially, we all learned that he was actually teleported away by Mr. Oz. So this clearly can’t count as a death since he never actually died to be revived or resurrected.
So Robin dies a lot only to be resurrected or revived. Clearly at this point no Robin has ever died because the definition of death is no longer alive. They might of been clinically dead at one point, but all these Robin’s are still kick’in it.
If they do kill another Robin, I don’t like it. It’s getting quite old if you ask me.
Bill Maher Still Calls Comic Culture a “Dumb F**king Culture”
I find this odd considering he admits he never read comic books, even as a child.
I don’t like it but we can be the bigger people by just ignoring him. So let’s be better than Maher by not saying or doing anything about it. We don’t have to defend our culture as comic book readers. If you lower yourself to his levels, you’re doing exactly what he wants and it makes you no better than him.
One should live by “Don’t knock it until you try it!”
Black Friday
No, I didn’t go shopping, I refuse to leave the house this time of year.
But I sold a bunch of comics which I hope was at great prices. A huge thank you to all that bought books from myself and Anthony as well. All the money will likely go towards my new fridge that arrives Monday. Yes, two days before Thanksgiving my fridge died so trying to survive Thanksgiving week living out of ice chests is a real PITA.
I will continue to list books in the coming days and weeks and my Black Friday deal stands with any purchases over $20 qualify for free shipping, so check back often. And if you’re looking for anything in particular feel free to ask. I might be willing to part with it.

    1. Yeah, Sweet Tooth pre-dated my return to comics or I likely would have had this series in my pulls. I still need to pick up the trade to read.

  1. Did all Christmas shopping from my iPad Wednesday already made $200 profit off selling 2 PS4 Spidey bundles which softens the holiday money squeeze. Black Friday isn’t Friday and you don’t have to go anywhere it’s the best.

  2. Maher needs to be completely ignored- the shock jock thing only works if there’s someone who cares to acknowledge them.
On a brighter note- scored a couple copies of immortal hulk 2 during an lcs’s black friday sale, 2 bucks a pop.
    Grass kings 1
    And a Champion’s 9.
Almost got the glitter cover for man eaters, but didnt wanna deal with that friggin mess

  3. my black friday buy, was a cgc 9.9 of asm 799 cover A for $65, not sure why any one would sell a asm cover A 9.9 for that low but i love them for it

  4. What grinds my gears is when eBay adds “best offers” to my auctions, especially when i turn the feature off before submitting my listing. Drives me nuts when I start getting low ball offers and I have to decline, apologize to the potential buyer, then update the listing.

    1. No reason ever to apologize to ebayers who throw you low ball offers. Decline and move on. If they come back with a ridiculous offer again, I just ban them. If eBay tries to remind me to submit counter offers that are fair, I expect the buyers to do the same.

  5. That’s why I think all comic book related deaths of any majorish type character is a huge scam. They never last and they’re alway going to come back. Seems like sales always surge though so I guess we’re going to continue to see them.

  6. This Maher has no talent and contributes nothing to society . A total douche-bag . What does he do anyway ? Have a funny face and interviews celebrities ? There is no difference between movies and comics anyway , it’s called escapism , and he wouldn’t exist if there were no hollywood .

      1. Needs to be told right to his face actually . I would like to see the look on his face when he realizes the truth ; “yes I am a nobody with no talent ; what right do I have to mock others “

        1. You’re still not getting the point. We can be the better person by ignoring him and people like him. The moment you retaliate, you are no better than he is and he’s already won because he’s accomplished by getting you to react.

        2. The way I see it, if you let someone or anyone like Maher get the better of you with a reactive emotional response by nonsense he’s said about something you feel is important in your life, then you likely already have doubts about yourself or oneself.
No response and ignoring people like Maher just proves you’re immune to such criticism and Maher’s remarks as non-threatening, making you the better person.

      2. to agentpyo , I already understood your point . But you already self-defeated by posting his name in your blog so I don’t feel an obligation to follow that “rule” . There are no rules . Maher is wrong and we have the right to call him out for it . We are not bad people just because we call him out for it .

        1. I’m not saying anyone is bad, I’m just saying anyone who turns around to call him names or to resort to his tactics used is not being the better person and you’re just wasting your time and effort that could be used elsewhere.
You’re failing to see my point still. By people reacting, you’re only giving him reason to keep up his nonsense so what is really a non-issue becomes a bigger issue. Learn to ignore and shrug off as nonsense. If one’s ego is so shattered by what one person says about a group, then perhaps he’s right? Eh?
I think I can sum up what Maher said originally in my previous Dislikes post, just ignore him, he’s just being an ass!

  7. Maher usually comes every year for a New Year’s Day show on Maui. I’ll bring your grievances to the show, it’s a pretty intimate show with less than a couple hundred people.
