Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 1/9/19

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our Picks of the Week for delivery 1/9/19:

For the Cover
Martian Manhunter #2 Middleton Variant – Great looking cover by Middleton. A bit of a horror tinge that I dig.

Bitter Root #3 Soto Variant – The series has been good and has featured some great looking variants. This is another one worth looking at.

For the Story
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 – I am shooting for the Artgerm Variant on this. Big reveal for Aunt May Parker which could change the stars quo for a while.

The Way Back One
Marvel Presents #3 Facsimile Edition – The facsimile editions are cool. Reprinting the original comics, ads and all, as they were originally presented. Some great titles coming up too.

The Marvel One to Watch
Mile Morales Spiderman #2 – The book is hot because of Into the Spider-verse bringing attention, but also a potential new character is introduced. Stay tuned for spoilers. Keep an eye out for the 1:25 Variant.

Small Press Book Worth Watching
Rags #3 Exposure Variant – I cringe as I type this, but if you can get it below cover it is selling at around $15.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Savants #1 – New series by Dead World writer Gary Reed. Source Point has had some spec hits. Small press, small print runs, good stories. Also look for the Gold Variant if you can find it.

The Pick of the Week
Harley Quinn #57 Julian Tedesco Variant – Not only is there a new artist taking over covers this month, and it is a great looking cover, but features a new character (we put the spoilers up earlier today.

That’s it for us this week, in case you missed it, here is the New Comic Spec Review for 1/9/19:

  1. Lmao at the ‘cringe’ comment for RAgs. Both those covers are so terrible. I feel the same way when I look at them, as you did when you wrote that sentence, Tony.
