This Thursday we go back to the early days of the X-Men. It’s hard to imagine these next two characters were introduced so early on, since we’ve now been accustomed to seeing them alongside the Avengers lately.
This throwback is for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who made their way into our lives in March of 1964 in X-Men #4.
When I was looking up comic book introductions, it seems March is a very busy month with a lot of the well known super heroes, so instead of digging into those well known heroes, I thought it would be more fun to focus on the supporting characters we all know and love.
If you’ve been living under a rock, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are brother and sister. They were part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the children of Magneto (first appearance in X-Men #1, yeah I know, I can’t afford it either).
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) and Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff) did not share the same views as Magneto and quickly broke away from the brotherhood after a few run ins with the X-Men and after Magneto is abducted.
They eventually join the Avengers (that happened in Avengers #16). While teaming with the Avengers, Scarlet Witch eventually falls in love with Vision which Quicksilver objects because well, Vision is an android and at the same time Hawkeye also objects because he’s got a crush on Scarlet Witch. Despite all of these objections, they still get married in Giant-Size Avengers #4.
Back in 1982 they even had their own The Vision and Scarlet Witch Mini-Series.
Both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch learn their origins in Avengers #185 which is a cover done by George Perez.
