  1. What is anyone’s opinion on continuing with the DC variants after July, now that they’re going cardstock for 4.99? I think I’m ready to stop with the titles I’m pulling, most of those villain headshots were just abysmal. $1 more permanently is not good.

    1. I wish they would mix it up a bit more. Enough of Middleton on Batgirl and Mattina on Batman. Let’s see some Middleton Batman/detective covers and more Putri on Batgirl…what about getting Tedesco to do some more covers too?

I guess it feels a bit stale at the moment….

    2. I am not liking the $1 increase. It is essentially a 25% increase on the buy in, for modern spec purposes (im not saying these have spec, im just saying). DCs books were $2.99 not that long ago. I do not think this is going to work, or last long, for DC (fingers crossed)..

      1. It seemed DC is dabbling with the price from $2.99 to $3.99 which seemed most of those started to include a digital copy as well, same technique Marvel uses. Which I’m fine with myself but the dollar price hike just to get the cardstock cover I’ll pass on. I’m with Brian, most if not all of them are not that good. I like the Court of Owl cover so far and none of the others have really stood out to me, especially at $4.99.

    3. Not a fan at all. I think $5 for one issue is too high, and they are going to lose customers

      1. Is the $1 increase sticking around after they are done with the card stock villain covers?

I doubt they’ll be as heavily ordered as they are now by shops…right now shops have caught on and they are not that hard to come by. might be some potential future spec potential going forward if there’s a knock out cover.

One of the issues my LCS uses ManageComics.com for subscribers to manage their pull lists…so I can go in and add/delete titles at my discretion. However, it does not differentiate between variant covers so I have to tell the owner if I want a specific cover.

I’ve told him just order me the variant covers and so far he doesn’t care if i switch out for an A cover here or there if he has it on the shelf…but if he’s ordering a $4.99 cover and I swap it out for a $3.99 cover and I do this regularly…we’ll that’s just not right in my mind.

        1. I don’t like the push for $4.99 comics. At all. I think this will lead to more people leaving the hobby. I know when we went from $2.99 to $3.99 I started buying more titles that were at the lower price point and stopped buying most Marvel books.

          1. Yes, continued higher cover prices is not good for the Hobby, period .

On the DC Cardstocks .. my Pull and Holds pretty much opted to go with the regular covers and save a buck .. in addition, a cardstock cover is really more prone to damage in shipment, at least IMO .. I don’t know if DC will continue with these, but I hope not ..

On the flipside, it’s possible that lower print runs on the Cardstocks may be a boost on the spec side if a cover is particularly good .. who knows ..

  2. Pick ups tomorrow are:
    Agents of Atlas #2 × 2
    Tec #1004
    Venom #14 A cvr
    Miles Moreles Spiderman #6

  3. sorry. this probably sound really stupid but im new to buying modern comics as a possible investment (ive been focused on bronze and silver age comics)
i have some 2017 mister miracle #1 i purchase as the price was blowing up. is it worth keeping them or should i try to get rid of them now. cheers

    1. The story has ended and the heat will fade. I would sell to regain my money back and any left over copies you can keep. I usually sell all but one of something (and usually regret not selling that one copy later.)

  4. I wonder why there isn’t more interest in the Game of Thrones comics published by Dynamite with all the talk and fans of the HBO series?

      1. Yeah, Reaver is on my check out list as well.

I think the issue with GoT comics is the same as when they attempted the Vikings comics when that show was at it’s peak. There’s just not that much interest, particularly when they arrive after the show has already been on the air for quite some time.

The last comic to do better than expected that debuted after the show was already airing I think was Rick and Morty.

      2. I am going to have signed copies of Reaver available in the near future. I know Justin pretty well and he comes to my LCS all the time

  5. Another small week for pick ups this week:

The Goon #2 (Alex Ross variant cover)
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #43 (Battle Lines variant)
Knights of the Golden Sun #7

Great week of spec pick ups as I was out of town on business and was able to stop in at a comic store while traveling. Was able to get the following books:

Captain America #25 (1st Falcon as Cap) $1
    52 #11 (1st full Kate Kane as Batwoman) $6
Young X-Men #9 (Granov Magus cover variant) $1
    Stumptown #1 (2nd printing) $1
Warlord of Mars #19 & #21 (Parrillo covers) $1 each

    Good hunting everyone!

  6. Anything going on with Amazing Nightcrawler 4? The cover image I saw suggests Kurt gains a daughter…?

Regarding DC “B” covers…unless they are too breath-taking to resist, I will pass on paying $1 more. Why pay $5, when I can have it for $4? Comics are already getting too expensive, why exacerbate the problem? Seems like a bad idea that could weaken DC’s sales…especially if folks who were getting both covers decide to change their buying habits.

  7. On the topic of increased B cover prices… it will surely put a damper on things, especially here in Canada where we pay 30-35 % on top of cover for exchange… it’ll make ‘B’ covers cost about 6.50 before taxes. Ugh.
As for picks this week, I grabbed 2x NAoA 2, left 3 on the shelf. My LCS likely didnt get any copies of the 1:25 variant.

  8. I really like the conversations on covers, I tend to like the B covers a lot more recently. You guys really help me figure out which ones to grab, as im collecting not selling them for profit.

  9. I did clean out my pullbox yesterday, but no pickups for me today. Not many comments today. What’s going on ? Slow week I guess or everyone’s over on the forum.

    1. Forum wasnt pinned to top this week. Having to scroll past 5-6 other articles to get to the forum detracts from participation, imo.

        1. Its all good, Tony. I have no empirical evidence to support my theory, but I do think there is a heavy correlation there.

  10. it is a slow week. picked up the faithless #1 2nd print and that xxx #2 variant love that cover .also scored archie #617 the sara pallen cover .getting signed by lisa ann google it . watching a nm sandman #4 as I want to bring it to s.d.c.c. and get it signed by the lucifer cast.&neal gainman . I think the dollar more on b covers will hurt in the long run if done after the crdstock covers end .but that train has veen slowing downf or awile now.what was the last bigkiller b? Harley #57 if there are any retailers in the coments .do you know if the infinity gaullent cookies jar still at diamond on clearance if so can you help a brother out? and last but not least rick and morty season 4 baby.hope this helps rick and morty items pick back up.take care .have a safe weekend love you all blind adam out?

    1. Comes up $39.95 retail .. does not appear on the Clearance List .. I bought 20 last time they were on clearance (first run) .. the new ones are a re-issue .. did well with them ..

  11. A guy from another part of the country was in my LCS today buying the remainder of the vintage books that were left in stock (they had been 75% off). This LCS is buying collections all the time, so they have another collection in the queue once the current one ships out, but I only gave the current crop a cursory look and mostly missed out on making any purchases. Oh well, you snooze, you lose as the saying goes.

    Anyway, this week’s pull:

  12. Hope you guys had better luck than I did on finding Miles Morales Spider-Man #6. None to be found in my area.

      1. I picked up one today at an LCS…it was really windy…the worst kind of day to pick up comics…

I walked out with a 9.8 potential copy of MMSM6 and did my best to keep it from flopping around in the wind, holding the bag to my chest but being gentle as not to force a spine bend.., but a big gust of wind literally sucked the comic from the bag and dragged it across the parking lot…

I did track it down, but my 9.8 is now a 9.4 at best. Ends of spine are a little blunted…

The quote from the Rockbiter of the Never Ending Story keeps running through my head..

“These big strong hands…They look like big, good, strong hands. Don’t they…?”

        If you’re younger than 40, I don’t expect you
        To get that reference….

  13. So here’s a question for a slow week. DC is putting out less then 10 comics next week (including the Super Hero Girls GN, and Marvel’s putting out near 30. And this seems to be a trend over the last few weeks/months. Anyone have a clue about the reasoning?
