Things I Like and Don’t Like for the Week of July 24th, 2019

It’s that time again, where I tell you what’s really grinding my gears for the week of July 24th, 2019.

Some weeks it’s mostly likes, other weeks it’s dislikes.

So what’s grinding my gears this week?

SDCC Buzz

Really enjoy seeing all the buzz being generated out of the first huge convention of the year.

From She Could Fly getting optioned by AMC to the Excellence news of getting optioned by Amazon.

Marvel announced their next phase lineup that now has some books moving, particularly the news of Jane becoming Thor that has caused Thor #1 start to really move now, which is considered her first since it’s in the first titles series.

Some might say her What If in What If? #10 moment is her first but for myself, I treat those as what they are.. . “What if’s”. They didn’t really happen.

We knew it was coming but now that it’s been confirmed with a date, we can all expect those Eternals books will continue to go up in value.

What upcoming Marvel movie are you looking forward to the most? I’m looking forward to Eternals, Black Widow and the sequels of Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy.

House of X

Finally, one of the much anticipated new X books out from Hickman is hitting store shelves.

I truly do hope these live up to the hype. As a Hickman fan (although I’m still mad at him for introducing us to Dying and the Dead, stopping it, then teasing us with it again and then it vanishes like a fart in the wind once again), I hope he can revive the X-Men cause I haven’t been interested in reading them or even watching their movies in years.

You can still order the regular first printing at most outlets but yet we are already being blessed with a 2nd printing as well.

Trade and Hardcover Picks

I didn’t do a trades and hardcover picks for this week cause there’s just absolutely nothing of interest, at least worthy enough of mentioning.

This I don’t like cause I love me some good trades, hardcovers or original graphic novels to check out.

What’s grinding your gears this week? Tell us here or in the forums.

  1. What’s grinding my gears this week is SDCC. With all of the exclusives and some only available through there raffle and then you get there, and not be able to buy it cuz they didn’t follow there own rules was just frustrating. I went to preview night and it was just chaotic. I wasn’t able to get one exclusive book.

Man the Lego line was a pain. Waited all 3 days for 2 hrs and they ran out before I was able to get up front. I did try for the Spiderman figure but didn’t get one. It was dumb cuz 3 people wouldn’t get it and another 6 people would. It was like that through out the line.

The cool stuff that happened was, I finally meet Todd McFarlane and he is a really nice guy. He offered my son a piece of candy and my son was all like “yeah ok” he really didn’t care lol. Everyone was laughing. I was able to get my 299 exclusive copy signed (which my wife got for me) and my Action Figure signed.

Another cool thing is I got to meet Eastman and he’s a cool dude as well. I got my exclusive cover of TMNT #95 signed and it’s going out to CGC.

Finally I got to meet Steve Blum. The voice actor of Spike from Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.

It has been both fun and chaotic at SDCC. I need to include all the family next year so that we can better our chances at getting these exclusives.

  2. she could fly get optioned is cool, but the list of producers if very interesting. there the executive producers from breaking bad. feels like spec wise this could be next umbrella academy
