Killadelphia Optioned for TV

Image Comics Killadelphia has been optioned for TV.

Now this is an interesting one because an official announcement has not been made. However, I had a chance to talk to Rodney Barnes, the writer of Killadelphia, and who has written and produced The Boondocks, My Wife and Kids, Everybody Hates Chris, Those Who Can’t, Marvel’s Runaways, Starz “American Gods,” and is currently Co-Executive Producer on Hulu’s “Wu-Tang: An American Saga.” Based on his resume, he is no stranger to TV.

Rodney, who is from Annapolis Maryland, was at a signing back in his home town on December 18th. While chatting about horror movies, an interest we both share, as well as shared fondness for the TV shows Kolchak the Night Stalker and X-Files (both Kolchak and Mulder and Scully will appear in issue 5 in the background), Rodney let out some pretty key information.

First up, it was mentioned that Killadelphia has been optioned for TV. Also, Rodney is currently working on the script. Like I mentioned earlier, no official announcement has come, but Rodney was very forthcoming with the information.

The characters and concepts first appear in Killadelphia #1 (there are copies on eBay for less than cover) (also available on TFAW and Mycomicshop.com for cover or less.)  Interestingly, issue #1 came out on 11/27/19, however, there was the Local Comic Shop Day Variant which was released on LCSD, 11/23/19, four days before the release of the regular cover. There is also the 1:25 Mattina Black Friday Variant which still fetches decent money.

  1. What!?!? Another comic book has been optioned.!?!? Great for sellers, don’t be a buyer. Another book for the “option” pile.

    1. I understand the reason people would feel that way about “another optioned comic” but when you already have quality scripted, already story-boarded material, many of which have built in fan bases, you will continue to see options for comics. Plus, when you have people from other media coming in to work on comics, of course they will use their connections. Normally I would agree with you that you sell on option news, but, at below cover price, it may not be bad to grab and hold one or two.

  2. Hmm.. spend $3.99 on a book to read and throw another $3.99 at an additional copy for the long term gamble to flip for $10 or $20 potentially.. or maybe, I can throw that additional $4 on two powerball tickets and the chances of winning anything is almost zilch. It’s a tough decision for sure.. Maybe I’ll save my $4 for NYCC next year on 4 slices of dollar pizza instead.. 😛

    1. I think it was very good. The dynamic of the son investigating his dad’s death and the dynamics in the family. Plus. Add in vampires and the family thread alone is good.

    1. Well thanks to them for the shout out. I have heard Michael P Jordan was looking at it. So he may have optioned it. However, I don’t have any news about Netflix
