Covrprice.com Runners-Up for 3/21/20

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. Think of this as the second half of the top 20.

#11 Star Wars Darth Vader #1 (Marvel, 2020) This new Darth Vader series is trending. Star Wars books used to be terrible market performers. They’ve really taken a turn for the better. It sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 223% and had a high sale of $10 for a raw copy.

#12 Year of the Villain Hell Arisen #3 2nd Print (DC, 2020) We all knew a 2nd print was coming. Stores planned and had plenty to offer. While it’s not hitting first print numbers, it still sold decently with 27 copies, had a 7-day trend of 89% and had a high sale of $12.99 for a raw copy.

#13 Bloodshot #1 (Valiant, 1993) While it didn’t fare well this weekend due to the Coronavirus scaring away moviegoers, those who did see responded with favorable reviews. This first official Valiant film helped this first solo series of Bloodshot to move 18 copies, have a 7-day trend of 133% and had a high sale of $57.91 for a CGC 9.8.

#14 Batman #89 Mattina “B” Variant (DC, 2020) These B variants are REALLY slowing down in terms of volume. It sold 20 copies, had a 7-day trend of 104% and had a high sale of $125 for a CGC 9.8.

#15 Sweet Heart #1 (Action Lab, 2020) Here’s a new book from Action Lab that saw some market heat! It’s pretty hard for an independent publisher to get a new release noticed with all this Punchline noise. It sold 32 copies, had a 7-day trend of 62% and had a high sale of $9.99 for a raw copy.

#16 Moon Knight #1 (Marvel, 1980) Fans are still prepping for the Disney+ Moon Knight series. As they should… it should be awesome. It sold 20 copies, had a 7-day trend of 103% and had a high sale of $270 for a CGC 9.8.

#17 Star Wars #16 (Marvel, 1977) This issue is the first appearance of THE HUNTER aka Beilert Valance. The Hunter was featured in the hot new STAR WARS: BOUNTY HUNTERS #1 and fans went looking for this issue. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 156% and had a high sale of $14.99 for a  9.0.

#18 Wolverine #1 (Marvel, 1988) Wolverine entering into the MCU is probably the most anticipated character since Spider-Man back in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War. His books are just going to continue to move. This sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 187% and had a high sale of $54 for a VF+ raw on MCS.

#19 Star Wars Bounty Hunters #1 Johnson 1:50 Variant (Marvel, 2020) This is the current hot new Star Wars series with an even hotter 1:50 variant. It sold 29 copies this past week, had a 7-day trend of 64% and had a high sale of $149.95 for a raw copy.

#20 Batman #89 2nd Print (DC, 2020) Like HELL ARISEN, this 2nd print was well anticipated. Despite its abundance, some folks still had to look online and helped this sell 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 87% and had a high sale of $9.99 for a raw copy.

  1. “These B variants are REALLY slowing down in terms of volume.“

I’m pretty much over them. The Mattina covers, anyway. But still picking up Batman Beyond and a Random covers here and there.

  2. I got a Moon Knight #1 at a local con (before the quarantine hit, of course). I paid $15, it’s about a 6.0, maybe a 5.5, not great for a 1980 book. Good or bad buy? And should I dump it to try to make a profit now, or hold until the show is closer to release? I just wanted a copy and didn’t notice the big flaws.

    1. A good buy. Is the wear that makes it a fine able to be pressed out or does it break color? Either way hang on to it and if you decide to sell, do it a week or so before the show comes out when the hype train is running full force.

      1. There’s a fold on the cover and it kind of looks like someone sat on it lol, but other than that, good enough. No multiple spine breaks or anything, but you can see the color break on the fold. It could probably be improved with a press, but it’d be ludicrous to pay $20 for that instead of another copy.

    2. Good buy I would say. The higher grades get too pricey and people will be scooping up mid grades. But yeah, try to get a press. It could bring it up some.

  3. I waited for the 2nd prints for Hell Arisen and Batman 89 and got them both for cover. The B covers have been good for DC. I wonder if they will stop at some point. Artgerm, Matina, and Jenny Frison made them matter.

I hope everything stabilizes but what happens if this goes into con season? If you’re already barely getting by as a store and a lot of your clientele has lost jobs what do you do?
