Covrprice.com Runners-Up for 5/17/20

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. Think of this as the second half of the top 20.

#11 VENOM #4 2ND PRINT (MARVEL, 2018) – “That Knull… he’s so hot right now.” This 2nd print didn’t want the #1 spot, 3rd print to have all the fun. With this 2nd issue featuring the 1st FULL appearance and origin of Knull, it has proved to be quite hard-to-find and sold 17 copies, had a 7-day trend of 189% and had a high sale of $59.99 for a raw copy.

#12 YOUNGBLOOD #2 GREEN LOGO (IMAGE, 1992) – These two Youngblood covers were apparently a 50/50 split when they came out in 1992. If you can recall, Image did color logo variants for several of their flagship titles, like SAVAGE DRAGON #1. The Pink (or Purple) logo is slightly out trending this for now… but honestly, one doesn’t seem to be rarer than the other. We kind of like the green better as the YOUNGBLOOD team are all colored green and just makes PROPHET pop more. It sold 25 copies, had a 7-day trend of 125% and had a high sale of $105 for a CGC 9.8.

#13 ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4 (MARVEL, 2011) Miles Morales is awesome. We know this, you know this and the collecting market knows this. It sold 25 copies, had a 7-day trend of 121% and had a high sale of $529.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#14 MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #8 (MARVEL, 1984) This is simply a classic undervalued cover. $279.95 for this gorgeous cover? Yes, please. It sold 29 copies, had a 7-day trend of 92% and had a high sale of $279.95 for a CGC 9.8.

#15 THE SAVAGE SHE-HULK #1 (MARVEL, 1980) We love She-Hulk and are ITCHING for casting news. While we all wait, fans are buying into this steadily. It sold 17 copies, had a 7-day trend of 161% and had a high sale of $449.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#16 INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #9 (MARVEL, 2016) First Riri Williams as IRONHEART is a key book. She’s primed to play a big role in the next wave of MCU content. Get this now while it’s reasonable. It sold 15 copies, had a 7-day trend of 176% and had a high sale of $199.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#17 THE UNCANNY X-MEN #244 (MARVEL, 1989) It’s surprising to see Jubliee’s 1st appearance trend, but here we are. If you grew up with the 90’s X-Men animated series, then you’re probably one of those that sought this out. t It sold 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 123% and had a high sale of $150.50 for a CGC 9.8.

#18 THE UNCANNY X-MEN #266 (MARVEL, 1990) We keep hearing rumors of a Gambit series coming to Disney+ (instead of a theatrical film). Collectors seem to be in a love or hate camp for the Ragin’ Cajun… we’re in the former. We still want collapsible bo staffs… if anything just to use as a cool pointer in meetings. It sold 24 copies, had a 7-day trend of 102% and had a high sale of $500 for a CGC 9.8.

#19 VENOM #3 3RD PRINT (MARVEL, 2018) Don’t worry, JUST because this fell so far down the list, it’s doing JUST fine. Prices just leveled out a bit this week. It still sold 26 copies, had a 7-day trend of 92% and had a high sale of $315 for a CGC 9.8.

#20 INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #7 (MARVEL, 2016 The first Riri Williams appearance in this issue may be light on the number of copies sold (13 by the way) it still had a 7-day trend of 182% and had a high sale of $149.99 for a CGC 9.8. Also, even more notably, a NM raw sold for $75!

    1. Yeah but Covprice seems to go with what’s also trending as well. Batman #89 and HA#3 still saw a bunch of sales and it’s still an easy $30 – $45 book raw for both. I think Batwang lasted so long cause there was not nearly the amount of books and other media options swirling around.

    2. RiRi Williams first appearance as Ironheart is Invincible Ironman Issue 1, she never gets mentioned as Ironheart until this issue, not to mention it says so on the cover of the book, its the first time we see the famous yellow red suit and the variants for the first time show her face as a actual cover not some bubble.

  1. Which is the Riri book to get if you’re getting only one- Invincible IM 7, or 9? I’m not going after both for this character.

      1. I think Poyo would disagree…first in costume “usually” wins. I’ll have to double check
I also think 7 is a cameo, while 9 is first full.

Cover to 7 is more “slab worthy” though which can play a factor.

Still go with 9, if I had to choose (and I don’t because I have both).

        1. Heh, usually first costume wins but the market early on picked #7 as the winner but seems #9 now is seeing love. And yes, I’d say #7 is more of a cameo appearance. She’s seen, she’s named but we still see the suit she’s making though.. but this is all we see in issue #7, one page and the 2 panes she’s in:

            1. Yeah, it’s definitely two books to watch to see which one eventually wins out but both seem to have the basic limited interiors. I’m sure some would even argue #9 is more of a cameo rather than a first full..

              1. Just Bendis’ nonsense about dumping a character in multiple issues to drive up spec. I mean, it’s not like he cares about the logic of Riri or Miles being ‘worthy’ enough to take up the title role, he just makes them the main character in one issue.

                1. I’m not even convinced he’d doing it for spec reasons, more on the aspect he just wants to make the news waves with the political correctness of him just creating characters focusing on race or sexual identity.

I mean, I get it. I like diversity but Bendis seems to shove this down our throats instead of just allowing them to grow organically over time with perhaps less subtle introductions.
