Covrprice.com Runners-Up for 5/22/20

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. Think of this as the second half of the top 20.

#11 BALL & CHAIN #1 (DC, 1999) This was announced two weeks ago that 7 studios were fighting to win the right to turn this comic into a film. It greatly helped that both THE ROCK and EMILY BLUNT were attached to star in it. While the stock was low, it spiked but didn’t sell enough copies to make it to our TOP 10. This week is ALMOST made it at spot #11. It sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 183% and had a high sale of $56 for a raw copy. It’s actually a pretty fun story.

#12 WYTCHES #1 (IMAGE, 2014) – In an interview with CBR.com: Snyder gave updates on two projects: UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY and WYTCHES. Syned responded with “Undiscovered Country, we’re working on the screenplay right now for New Republic,” he said. “We have about another four weeks before we hand in the draft so it’s commenced and it’s all good. And Wytches is definitely still in development too.” With that update, a small fire lit under these books causing them to move. Keep in mind the keywords Synder mentions above: “working on the screenplay” and “draft”. That means that these are still VERY much in the early stages. They both most likely have years before we see them in cinemas or TV… and they still need to find a distributor. You have plenty of time to find copies when your shops open back up. No need to rush on these. It sold 17 copies, had a 7-day trend of 110% and had a high sale of $69.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#13 NOVA #1 (MARVEL, 1976) – Much like last year, rumors of Nova have picked back up again. This first appearance of Richard Rider as NOVA is the core title collectors are chasing. Thanks to these rumors, this sold 17 copies, had a 7-day trend of 102% and had a high sale of $999.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#14 STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS #1 (DARK HORSE, 2008) – Wow, this is the book of 2020 and the King of COVID back issue heat. RIGHT when everything changed, CGC 9.8’s were selling for $369 and raws were $150 to $200. We thought those prices were crazy high… and then MADALORIAN rumors kicked in and BOOM, this book just lit up. This week it sold 10 copies, had a 7-day trend of 161% and had a high sale of $899.99 for a CGC 9.8. (Just an update as of 5/20… a 9.8 sold today for $1,400!!! For the main cover!!!!)

#15 THE NEW MUTANTS #98 (MARVEL, 1991) – We mentioned this in our newsletter last week, with rumors of Deadpool 3 in production under Disney (with plot and character leaks… as noted in this week’s Top 10) this 1st appearance of Deadpool is picking back up. It sold 16 copies, had a 7-day trend of 97% and had a high sale of $786.50 for a CGC 9.8.

#16 MARVEL SUPER-HEROES SECRET WARS #8 (MARVEL, 1984) -Everything Venom is hot… even if it’s simply just a piece of his origin. This undervalued key issue sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 133% and had a high sale of $285 for a CGC 9.8. Let’s see if Donny Cates can retcon Knull into this (that’s a joke… not a spec).

#17 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #361 (MARVEL, 1992) – Carnage is coming. We know this. We just have to wait a little longer to see him in action. For now, his first appearance continues to sell well with 14 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 102% and had a high sale of $225 for a CGC 9.6.

#18 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #365 (MARVEL, 1992) – Spider-Man 2099 is ALSO getting his fair share of MCU rumors. His first appearance in this issue is also moving a little. It sold 11 copies, had a 7-day trend of 132% and had a high sale of $22.50 for a NM Raw copy.

#19 SPAWN #1 (IMAGE, 1992) – This comic should just be our mascot. It’s constantly fighting to show back up on this list. It sold 16 copies, had a 7-day trend of 87% and had a high sale of $110 for a CGC 9.8.

#20 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #129 (MARVEL, 1974) – With no new books, collectors are seeking out key issues like this first appearance of THE PUNISHER (which, if you recall, is called “the Holy Grail of comics” within the film COYOTE UGLY… sorry, it still bugs me). It sold 15 copies, had a 7-day trend of 94% and had a high sale of $2,900 for a CGC 9.4.
