Covrprice.com Runners-Up for 5/29/20

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. Think of this as the second half of the top 20.

#11 WOLVERINE #1 (MARVEL, 1988)
We hear over and over about HOW and WHEN folks think Wolverine is going to show up in the MCU. We all know that he WILL show up one day, and for now… that’s enough. Collectors are going back to this first issue of his solo series, which is seeing a nice uptick in price. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 226% and had a high sale of $195 for a CGC 9.8.

#12 MOON KNIGHT #1 (Marvel, 1980)
While this book has never stopped selling since he was announced for Disney+ last July, new rumors are swirling that Marvel has plans for him to join the MCU Avengers. This lit sales up a bit and sold 29 copies, had a 7-day trend of 98% and had a high sale of $345 for a CGC 9.8.

#13 STAR WARS ADVENTURES CLONE WARS #1 (Marvel, 2020)
Hey, new books!!! This one was perfectly timed with the massive heat behind STAR WARS: CLONE WARS #1. This standard cover had significant traction and sold 26 copies, had a 7-day trend of 105% and had a high raw sale of $15.

#14 FANTASTIC FOUR #50 (MARVEL, 1966)
The big battle between Silver Surfer and Galactus. This was a big moment for the Surfer as he defies his master in order to help the Fantastic Four save Earth. This is the issue that makes him a hero. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 196% and had a high sale of $1,049 for a CGC 8.0.

#15 ULTIMATE X-MEN #1 (MARVEL, 2001)
We never thought we’d see this on our lists. However, rumors are still swirling that the X-men and Fantastic Four that the MCU wants to bring in are based on the Ultimate versions giving this classic alternate X-Men a brand new bump in price. (By the way, we LOVED the Ultimate Universe… the first 5 years at least). It sold 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 116% and had a high sale of $51 for a CGC 9.6.

#16 STAR WARS ADVENTURES CLONE WARS #1 1:10 CHARM VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020)
New books this week bring new variants! This sold 16 copies, had a 7-day trend of 135% and had a high sale of $29.99 for a raw copy.

#17 NOVA #1 (MARVEL, 1976)
New Nova rumors are swirling. It’s the same old, same old. Still, it sold 28 copies, had a 7-day trend of 76% and had a high sale of $780 for a CBCS 9.8.

#18 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #210 (MARVEL, 1980)
VARIETY mentioned that there’s a “Secret Marvel Movie From Sony in the Works With Director S.J. Clarkson”. While the writer admits to not knowing WHICH character will be featured, they report insiders citing MADAME WEB, whose first is in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #210 (1980). This news helped move 22 copies, had a 7-day trend of 95% and had a high sale of $549.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#19 STAR WARS #2 (MARVEL, 1977)
This issue is the first appearance of a small-time Stars Wars character by the name of Han Solo. This issue has always been undervalued. This week, it had a nice push forward as it sold 18 copies, had a 7-day trend of 110% and had a high sale of $75 for a CGC 9.0.

#20 NEW MUTANTS #1 (MARVEL, 1983)
Apparently, the last Fox Marvel film is STILL coming… one day. It sold 16 copies, had a 7-day trend of 122% and had a high sale of $93 for a CGC 9.8.

  1. With Star Wars comics getting hotter and hotter I can see the early bronze issues seeing more interest and price spikes….in high grade only though (9.0 or higher with 9.6/9.8 eventually seeing some big heat).

  2. “Rumors circulating that the MCU versions of the Fantastic Four will be based on the Ultimate universe”??? Well, even with a pretty large print run for Ultimate Reed Richards first appearance we all know what eventually happens to him. Could Ultimate FF #1 become a legit mid level key at some point? If that is the case could we see Reed Richards become the Maker in the MCU at some point? You think Ultimate Fallout #4 is going nuts now??? Also, Marvel Zombies were first introduced in the Ultimate U as well… Just sayin.

    1. Hope so. I have like three or four copies of UFF #1. Plus a run of issues 1-50 I’ve been trying to sell for years.

It actually was a pretty good series, IMO…at least for the first 30 issues or so. Marvel Zombies are the highlight. Love the zombie variant covers in the series.

I have a minty copy of issue 22. That series is tough to find in the wild in 9.8 shape as it had that waxy Carr stock like cover which seemed to “crack” along the spine vertically if you opened the book to far or compressed it to much.

      1. Would love to see an alternate universe live action Marvel Zombies. Doubt that would happen but it would be amazing! The animation they are supposed to be doing will be fun to watch!

  3. However, rumors are still swirling that the X-men and Fantastic Four that the MCU wants to bring in are based on the Ultimate versions giving this classic alternate X-Men a brand new bump in price…I love you guys. This reply is aimed at the world, not you for writing this. I call shenanigans on that sentence. The characters are going to be based upon their names and what ever versions, powers and costumes, the barely familiar screenwriters will toss together during a conference call. That’s a FOMO exploiting sentence.
Remember the disclaimer, “any resemblance to any persons living or dead, is purely coincidental” ? In hollywood created X-men and FF movies, take it literally and figuratively .

  4. the 1988-2003 wolverine series is a great play.s#1,7,8,10&50 witch might be the first die cut cover are all worth the buy.and with ultimate x men heating upit is time for ultimate team up as it features the first ultimate fantastic four love you guys blind adam out

  5. The straight to VHS version of FF, the barely passable two 20th Century fox FF movies; the Josh Trank tanked FF movie ….. and now one based on the Ultimate FF?
Can we just not just get the FF movie we all deserve??

  6. Ultimate don’t matter just look at Ultimate Venom compared to ASM 300 that is the Ultimate origin in the Venom movie. Or look at Taskmaster vs Ultimate Taskmaster ones breaking records and ones fetching $10 , even though he has the name of the ultimate taskmaster he looks nothing like him in the movie he looks like regular task master and not a knock off Casey Jones looking ultimate Taskmaster.

    1. That’s true, Ultimate versions of already established 616 characters don’t fare as well. One of the few exceptions I can see I mentioned above. Reed Richards and only if they eventually change him into the Maker and use him in the MCU. That would propel Ultimate Fallout #4 into the stratosphere and even high printed Ultimate FF #1 would see a decent spike in price. A lot of guess work with that and a long shot at best that the Maker would show with all the other villains rumored to make an appearance in the coming years. It would be cool but probably not meant to be.

  7. I feel like every single FF movie made was based on Ultimate FF… give us the classic version already.

There doesn’t seem to be much new they can do with the X-Men since the original 10 movies covered a LOT and did it well. Maybe New X-Men aesthetic with Xavier modeled on Grant Morrison…

      1. With Franklin already born and maybe even grade school age. Don’t need to see another origin movie to start everything off.
