Poyo’s FOC Highlight Book(s) for 6/1/2020

FOC is the last chance to put in your orders with your comic shops and likely get at a discount for pre-ordering.

So I got a few this week again. I try to limit to just one or two picks but it’s just hard at times.

This week the first pick goes to Star Wars Adventures Clone Wars #2 as this one might get skipped or overlooked by some people. The 1:10 Retailer Incentive (RI) looks almost just like the regular cover by Derek Charm. Just a slight color change.

Here’s the regular cover:

And here is the RI variant that is 1:10 ratio:

We all know what happens with second issues, drop in print runs. I can’t see a lot of shops even ordering 10 copies of this one and if they do, they likely won’t order more than 20 of these to increase their free copies. Yes, free. So don’t let them price gouge you too much cause these are also fully returnable. Maybe if you let your local shop know you’ll buy 1 or 2 copies, they’ll secure you a copy of the 1:10.

At time of writing (late Friday evening, only one listed on eBay for $15.19 + $4.95 shipping).

The next pick is another IDW book. There are a lot of Stephen King fans and you just can’t go wrong with his work. The guy is just a master story teller.

But this book I think has potential since it’s based on his novel of the same name. So you might get fans of the book seeking out the comics.

That book is Sleeping Beauties #1, which I believe is a 10 issue series.

There’s a 1:10 and 1:25 variant for this issue as well. For you Peach Momoko fans (spare us any grumbles if you aren’t a fan), there’s a store variant for that one as well that’s already selling well on pre-sales.

I believe AMC currently holds the option rights already for Sleeping Beauties to adapt into a possible television show. So might not be a bad pickup, the chance this turns into a show is probably greater than it won’t since it’s got King’s name attached to it.

Still on the Immortal Hulk bandwagon? Some surprise hits have come out of this series and on FOC is Immortal Hulk #34 that introduces the Thoughtful Man (could be a new name for The Leader but the solicitation for #34 sure makes it sound like it’s a new character).

Could be a decent pickup just in case it is a new character that takes off with popularity since the buzz about this book has sizzled off a bit from it’s earlier issues. But this could be that book you buy a few to just stash for the just in case.

Immortal Hulk #34Immortal Hulk #33 story and issue title was called “The Thoughtful Man” but from what I can confirm, he doesn’t actually make an appearance (unless of course it just ends up being The Leader), just the story build up to him.

That’s it for this week. I could have mentioned a few more but I really do try to narrow down these picks.

    1. Could be but IH #34 solicitation starts off with…. “The Thoughtful Man is here – and his dreadful thoughts are vast and dark enough to swallow even the Devil.”

    2. I added and edited the solicitation (and that it could just be a new name for the Leader), you could be right but it’s certainly a book to watch just in case it’s not after thinking about it a bit more.
