Covrprice.com Runners-Up for 6/4/20

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. Think of this as the second half of the top 20.

#11 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300 (MARVEL, 1988) This first appearance of Venom is starting to pick back up a little as we get closer to a full Carnage trailer. We can’t wait to see the two square off. It sold 15 copies, had a 7-day trend of 114% and had a high sale of $725 for a CGC 9.6.

#12 WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #99 (MARVEL, 1993) Nightwatch was also named in the JACKPOT articles as “still in development”, His first full appearance in this issue sold 17 copies, had a 7-day trend of 97% and had a high sale of $11.99 for a raw copy.

#13 STARS AND S.T.R.I.P.E. #0 (MARVEL, 1999) Folks are loving the new STARGIRL, which may be the first CW show to see a first appearance GO UP in value after appearing on screen. (sorry, little jaded here after SO many crash & burn firsts for other CW series cameo appearances). It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 123% and had a high sale of $152.49 for a CGC 9.6. Raw copies are selling for $75.

#14 STAR WARS ADVENTURES CLONE WARS #1 PEACH MOMOKO VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) Frankie’s Comics sold this exclusive at their web store for $20. Limited to 1,000 copies, it sold out pretty quickly. It sold 10 copies, had a 7-day trend of 160% and had a high sale of $159.99 for a CGC 9.8. Raw copies are an easy $100.

#15 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #210 (MARVEL, 1980) With VARIETY alluding to a possible MADAME WEB film at Sony, her first appearance sold 18 copies, had a 7-day trend of 86% and had a high sale of $699.99 for a CGC 9.8. This film is called “a secret project”, though many point to this being a much larger Multiverse film. We’ll see.

#16 WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #1 (MARVEL, 1985) This classic cover featuring the black suit is another undervalued Spidey book. It had a 7-day trend of 118% and had a high sale of $109 for a CGC 9.8. Still pretty low to us.

#17 VENOM #25 FUNKO VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) There was a little controversy around this variant. Many have posted online that it was quite difficult to obtain with Diamond requiring stores to order multiple copies of the Comic Moments Funko set of the same image to get one copy. Then you have others reporting that it was open order. From what Diamond told us, retailers DID have to qualify for this variant. Regardless, this is now one pricey comic. It sold 10 copies, had a 7-day trend of 147% and had a high sale of $120 for a raw copy.

#18 X-MEN #5 (MARVEL, 1992) Say what you want about 90’s comics, but this cover is a perfect example of how legitimately amazing it was when it was at its best. This cover is pure fantastic Jim Lee art. This issue also is the first full appearance of Omega Red and first appearance on Maverick. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 107% and had a high sale of $92.89 for a CGC 9.8.

#19 THE UNCANNY X-MEN #266 (MARVEL, 1990) The first full Gambit keeps popping up. Fans are certain that he’ll show up in the MCU. It sold 18 copies, had a 7-day trend of 76% and had a high sale of $425 for a CGC 9.8.

#20 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252 (MARVEL, 2020) This Amazing Fantasy 15 homage was the first and is still mostly undervalued. It’s started picking up as fans focus on buying classic covers. It sold 15 copies, had a 7-day trend of 86% and had a high sale of $121.50 for a high-grade raw copy.

  1. Always did like that Web of Spidey cover,,,even if it doesn’t have a first, it’s a classic in my mind.

I’m only 3/10 this week, but those three are WoS #1, ASM 300 and 252. So I’m doing alright.

  2. The runners-up list almost always seems to be the list I am more interested in.
No data to support this – just a general hunch and thought that the runners-up seem to be the more sustainable list in the long term (not totally, but mostly).

  3. There’s over 50 books that CW shows have raised values on, WTF is this guy talking about. He Must of missed out on all of them. The first rush on Deathstroke was created by Arrow all them years ago back when you could get Minty raws for $20. 1st Rip Hunter was worthless now it’s an early silver age DC key. Action comics #252 popped, every Silver Age Flash book and some Golden and Moderns popped, 1st Constantine was a $10 book before his show look at that pop. This guy writes comic articles of hot top 10 lists but has little to no idea what’s going on, anybody can read some eBay numbers.

    1. Before the CW shows I pretty much only collected Marvel keys and independents had 1st Harley Quinn as my only DC book. Because of the CW shows I’m a avid DC collector like the people I use to poke fun of as a Marvel only collector.
