Rumor of Disney Casting Deaf Native American Character

Looks like Echo has become a character of note according to some sources. CBR has mentioned a rumor that Disney has put out a casting call for a Deaf Native American, First Nation, Indigenous or Latina for a Disney+ show.

Thanks to Danial P. in the forums for the heads up.

Echo, AKA Maya Lopez, first appears in Daredevil #9

From CBR:

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking to cast a deaf female actor who is also Native American, First Nation, Indigenous or Latinx for a role in an upcoming Disney+ series.

According to Daniel Richtman, the character’s name is Malia. She is described as an “independent, athletic and bright” 20-something-year-old. The character is set to appear in an MCU series that is filming in the fall. While only the first name of the character has been confirmed, Richtman believes Malia is the hero Echo.

The fall timeline rules out The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki, as those series are nearing the end of production or in the middle of filming. That leaves Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk and Mrs. Marvel. Of those four shows, only Moon Knight has a start date for production. It is scheduled to begin filming on Nov. 16 of this year.

  1. Echo appeared as Ronin in New Avengers – wonder if that connection to Hawkeye will lead to her appearance in that show

    1. You all going to be mad when it’s a Star Wars character using sign language or a childrens show character signing.

      1. It’s kinda ridiculous this guy said it a whole day and a half before everyone else people take it and say it’s there news add BS to it and never credit the guy with 9 likes on his tweet. It goes through ten other comic sites as FACT and next thing you know Echo is coming to the MCU.

    2. I corrected the title. The body remain accurate. It is Disney casting and not Marvel. As for who broke it, I tracked it back through the article presented. I have never heard of Chris Dodd so I couldn’t give credit to him because of never knowing he existed.

      1. I’m not talking about here the other places this is posted, Chris Dodd is a deaf actor that’s why he was the first to post the casting. As for Echo being in Hawkeye it states it’s a leading role in the casting so unless Echo is Hawkeye or All New Hawkeye Kate Bishop I wouldn’t call it a leading role for the Hawkeye series. For recent Marvel breakdowns like the Eternals almost all the characters being cast names where in the casting breakdown, even ones that Marvel doesn’t reveal the real name of the character in the castings it says it’s for a Marvel role in the breakdown which this does not.

        1. Some She-Hulk supporting roles casting break downs came out last week and It said in the casting it was for She Hulk series right in the casting it didnt say an upcoming Disney+ series like this does and the casting was the same agency as she does the whole MCU but she also casts a ton of other stuff for Disney.

  2. If that’s the new pattern, its gonna be a bitc# to cast Galactus. And does anyone know anyone who can breathe underwater and go flying through the air?

  3. There are people who live deep in the sheltered communities of the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. They have blue skin. Why were none cast as Kree?
