Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week Ending 10/9/20

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBaytrends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#1 AVENGERS: EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES #36 (MARVEL, 2020) While many guessed that the heat from this issue comes from the Black Panther/Moon Knight fight, it actually is due to the gorgeous Chadwick Boseman tribute artwork from artist Joshua “Sway” Swaby on the back cover. Due to this demand, it sold 43 copies, had a 7-day trend of 326% and had a high sale of $22.95 for a raw copy.

#2 SHANG-CHI #1 DIKE RUAN VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) This new series features the first appearance of SISTER HAMMER, who also appears on this variant cover. Since this is the only cover she’s on, it got a significant boost in interest and outperformed the other variants, selling 14 copies with a 7-day trend of 469% and a high sale of $26.60 for a raw copy.

#3 BLACK #1 (BLACK MASK, 2016) Per Deadline, “Studio 8 announced that Warner Bros. has acquired Black, the feature adaptation of the Black Mask comic series from co-creators Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith 3. The comic sets out to explore a universe where only Black people have superpowers beyond what the world believes is possible.” This news sold 18 copies, had a 7-day trend of 211% and had a high sale of $64.95 for a CGC 9.8. Raw copies sell for $30.

#4 AMAZING FANTASY #1 (MARVEL, 2004) While very unconfirmed, there is speculation that Araña will be the Spider-Woman in Olivia Wilde’s Sony film. It sold 30 copies, had a 7-day trend of 100% and had a high sale of $499.99 for a CGC 9.8. Raw copies sell for around $80.

#5 MARVEL TEAM-UP #95 (MARVEL, 1980) This issue holds the 1st appearance of Mockingbird, who is rumored to appear in the HAWKEYE series for Disney+. If you recall, the two were married in the comics. However, Clint Barton’s wife in the MCU is Laura Barton, with no ties to a former costume identity. This unconfirmed speculation sold 10 copies, had a 7-day trend of 301% and had a high sale of $49.99 for a NM raw copy.

#6 MS. MARVEL #12 (MARVEL, 2016) Prior to actress Iman Vellani’s casting as Ms. Marvel, casting rumors were already circling of Red Dagger joining the Disney+ series. His 1st appearance in this issue sold 19 copies, had a 7-day trend of 145% and had a high sale of $26 for a raw copy.

#7 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300 (MARVEL, 1988) Between Donnie Cate’s Venom run and the upcoming (someday) VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE, Venom is hot, hot, hot! While his 1st full appearance in this issue has been expensive for years now, it’s really starting to increase in price. It sold 23 copies, had a 7-day trend of 92% and had a high sale of $5,200 for a CGC 9.8.

#8 STRANGE ACADEMY #2 (MARVEL, 2020) With the 1st issue heat, collectors have started chasing this 2nd issue. It sold 15 copies, had a 7-day trend of 131% and had a high sale of $76 for a CGC 9.8. Raw copies sell for $25.

#9 THE UNCANNY X-MEN #221 (MARVEL, 1987) Sometimes even we don’t know why a book trends. It’s most likely due to possible Deadpool MCU speculation or interest from the current X-Men comic storylines. (That’s what happens when you run a completely data-driven list!) Either way, this 1st appearance of Mr. Sinister is heating up. It sold 14 copies, had a 7-day trend of 136% and had a high sale of $335 for a CGC 9.8. A raw copy also had it’s highest sale in a while at $60.

#10 THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #1 WERTHER DELLEDERA (1:100) VARIANT (IMAGE, 2020) This homage to James Tynion’s other hot title, SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN, was a slow burn on Wednesday and Thursday as it sold at ratio ($100). However, by Friday it jumped to $175. Recent copies have sold between $150 and $160. It sold 18 copies, had a 7-day trend of 102% and had a high sale of $175 for a NM raw copy.
