Naomi Coming to the CW

Naomi first appears in Naomi #1 (and not on the cover of Action Comics).

The CW is going into business with acclaimed filmmaker Ava DuVernay, to bring another DC comic book character to life.

TVLine has learned that the home of the Arrowverse is developing a script for Naomi, based on the DC character of the same name and to be executive-produced and written by ARRAY Filmworks’ DuVernay and Jill Blankenship, in association with Warner Bros TV.

Per the official logline, the series follows a teen girl’s journey from her small Northwestern town to “the heights of the multiverse.” When a supernatural event shakes Naomi’s hometown to the core, she sets out to uncover its origins — “and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.”

Naomi debuted as a comic book series in 2019 with Naomi: Season One, which was co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and illustrated by Jamal Campbell.

Though this marks DuVernay’s first project for The CW (and the first DC series not EP’d by Greg Berlanti), she has been quite prolific on the small screen in recent years, with Netflix’s acclaimed When They See Us and a slew of upcoming series — including HBO Max’s DMZ (also based on a DC comic), NBC’s Native American family drama Sovereign, and Netflix’s Colin Kaepernick biopic series.
Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes will also produce Naomi for ARRAY.

  1. Ahhhhh yes……. the CW and DC. A combination for the ages. I’m ready to purchase a Lamborghini with CW/DC speculation

    1. Well CW is owned by Warner who also owns DC. It’s either gonna end up there or on HBO +. But I agree that CW spec hasn’t been huge for paying out. I will say I listed my copies shortly after the news broke. Sell on the sizzle not on the steak.

    1. exactly. Naomi was a dud. and then I bought more and more and more and more……..9.8s were cheap at the time at about $100-140 for 9.8s.

  2. I remember a few people buying 9 8s for $500 to 600. Crazy. Could be a $800 book eventually…so they shouldnt feel so bad now

    1. I love the circular nature of spec. That’s why I never (or try not to) fire sale books if you miss the selling window. So many times it comes back around.

    2. Those were most definitely shill bids. Everyone else was paying $300 at the time.

Not saying it won’t hit that height…but I’m not holding my breath until she hits the big screen.

  3. CW should be banned from comic series regardless. This would’ve been much more impactful and newsworthy had they gone with hbo. 90210 with super heroes.

  4. Any update on a tracking number or when the books I purchased on Black Friday will be received? In paying for priority shipping, I’d have thought I would e received them by now…

      1. Like I said, USPS is busy and with pandemic being the cause of delays (people shipping more items for holidays and then employees out probably sick), it is what it is. Patience and check tracking.. if provided with such things. And give them some slack as well.. the sellers (as long as it shows they shipped out and not sitting on it) and the USPS workers.. they’re risking their health for yo shit! 🙂
